Members of Table Tennis England are urged to sign a petition calling for a Sports Recovery Fund to be set up by the Government to support the sport sector through the pandemic.

Table Tennis England is one of more than 100 sports and physical activity organisations to have signed up to the campaign, co-ordinated by ukactive

We are co-signatories on a letter sent to Prime Minister Boris Johnson urging him to provide emergency funding to support the sector.

Now, a public petition entitled Save Community Sports Clubs and Leisure Facilities with a Sports Recovery Fund has gone live and we are asking everyone involved in table tennis to add their voices to the campaign by signing the petition.

We are also asking our members to consider writing to their MP to make them aware of the impact of the latest lockdown, and the pandemic as a whole, on clubs, leagues, individuals and venues across the country.

Table Tennis England Chief Executive Sara Sutcliffe said: “The latest lockdown announcement is a bitter blow for the sports sector and, in the case of our sport, to the hundreds of volunteers who have worked so hard to help make a safe return to play possible and the thousands who have benefitted from their hard work.

“We understand and respect the Government decision, but it throws into sharper focus that there is a serious risk of widespread and lasting damage to the sector and to the health and wellbeing of the nation – and that further Government support in the form of a Sport Recovery Fund is vital.

“We urge everyone in our sport and across the sports sector to make their voices heard by signing the petition and, if they wish, writing to their MPs.”

A spokesman for ukactive said: “It is now, more than ever, vital that we work collectively to show how important our sector is to improve the nation’s health and wellbeing, especially through these very challenging months ahead.”
