1st4sport Level 3 Certificate in Tutoring Sport (CTS)
The CTS is awarded by 1st4sport Qualifications and has been developed in partnership with sports coach UK. It is accredited at Level 3 on the National Qualifications Framework.

Is the CTS for me?
If you are an adult (over 18 years of age) who wants to hone your skills in the delivery and facilitation of learning sessions for people involved in sport, then the CTS is designed for you.
Entry to the qualification requires you to hold an appropriate technical qualification in sport (as a coach, match official, sports therapist, etc.) or have an appropriate vocational/competency-based qualification at least one level above that of the learners to whom you will be delivering learning sessions.
The qualification is designed to give an indication of your competence in generic tutoring skills and requires you to demonstrate your application of the principles in your area of sport – by delivering information to coaches, match officials, sports therapists etc. The qualification is being used in some sports as their indicator of competence to deliver particular learning programmes and, as such, may be delivered in parallel with the sport’s technical requirements to deliver a particular qualification.
The CTS is being used by a growing number of governing bodies of sport as the benchmark qualification for tutors to deliver their UK Coaching Certificate (UKCC) endorsed coaching programmes, combined with an appropriate induction to the requirements of their UKCC endorsed programme.
Why should I study the CTS?

• As a Continuous Professional Development opportunity for existing deliverers who may not hold a nationally accredited tutoring qualification.
What can I use the CTS for?
• To gain paid or unpaid employment as a tutor delivering vocational learning programmes and qualifications for coaches, match officials, therapists and others involved in sport.
• Towards the achievement for specific units of the ENTO Learning and Development awards.
• As a CPD credit.
What will I learn?
Your learning programme will develop your understanding of how to:
• plan and design learning sessions
• deliver effective learning sessions
• manage and facilitate students’ learning
• review, assess and evaluate learning.
How will my learning programme be structured?
Learning programmes are usually designed by the recognised centre that delivers the qualification. They may, therefore, vary in length and format. Depending on the needs of their learners, centres can offer intensive courses or a series of learning events over a number of days or weekends. Whatever the timescale, all learning programmes should include the following phases:
• An induction to the qualification and your programme of learning and assessment.
• A learning programme that meets your needs.
• A programme of assessment spread across the course, including an observation of you delivering learning sessions by an appropriately qualified assessor.
You should be given time away from the learning programme to practise your tutoring skills and gather evidence of your tutoring in your particular area of expertise.
At the end of the programme, you will be provided with formal feedback on your performance and an action plan for your further development.
What will my assessment involve?
The internal assessment will require you to:
• produce of a minimum of one appropriate learning session plan and associated resources to support the learning process and the delivery of a 15 minute learning session
• deliver one learning session (which may be in a simulated environment) while being observed
• complete an evaluation and reflective review for the above learning session
• complete a personal action plan following the delivery of the learning session
The independent assessment will require you to:
• produce a minimum of one appropriate learning session plan and associated resources to support the learning process and the delivery of a one hour learning session
• deliver a learning session which will be observed by an independent assessor
• complete an evaluation and reflective review for the above learning session
• complete a personal action plan
• complete a Supplementary Questions sheet
• provide evidence of a professional discussion with an independent assessor
Where can I access the qualification?
The qualification is delivered by 1st4sport Qualifications’ recognised centres, not all of whom offer open courses to members of the public. Your first port of call to access a course should be to contact the appropriate Governing Body of Sport.
