Worcestershire Schools’ Table Tennis Association, on behalf of St Egwin’s CE Middle School, Evesham and Prince Henry’s High School, Evesham, were overall winners of this year’s National Press Cutting Competition organised by the English Schools’ Table Tennis Association.

Press cuttings entered by John McKay, Worcestershire Schools’ County Secretary, recounted the tremendous individual championships staged at St Egwin’s and the success of Prince Henry’s Under-16 Boys’ Team in reaching the Regional Finals of the 2016 Butterfly Schools’ Team Championships.

The schools received prizes donated by Butterfly of packs of championship balls, scoring machines, a matchplay net & post set and senior skills bats, while John received a table tennis coaches shoulder bag.

Craig Witheford, Prince Henry’s U16 captain, said:

“This is great for the school as we really need new equipment which can be shared between ourselves and St. Egwin’s so that many local players will benefit.”

Carol Kennedy, St Egwin’s Headteacher, said:

“I am delighted to receive the prize on behalf of the school. I am sure our Head of PE, Stuart Taylor, and our pupils will get maximum use from the new equipment.”

There was also success for St George’s CE Primary School, Worcester who won a consolation prize for an entry by Annelie Fidoe – the Under-11 Girls’ County Schools’ champion.

A second prize of equipment was awarded to The Park School, Bournemouth. Nine other schools received consolation prizes.
