Top seed Matthew Leete from Lincolnshire won the Junior Boys’ Singles in the Tees Active Stockton 4* Junior Table Tennis Championships, which took place at Thornaby Pavilion last weekend.

Leete’s victories were by a comfortable margin. He beat Aadil Anand from Kent 3-1 in the quarter-finals, Yorkshire’s Shayan Siraj straight games in the semi-final, and Cleveland’s Alec Ward 3-1 in the final.

Siraj did well to reach the semi-final with wins over Harry Dai and Joe Clark, whilst Ward, the fourth seed, beat Cleveland’s Josh Harland 11-9 in the fifth in the semi-final.

The Junior Girls’ Singles was won by the top seed, Gauri Duhan of Yorkshire, without losing a game. In the final she beat the second seed, Zahna Hall of Middlesex, having defeated Ruby Chan of Yorkshire in the semi-final.

The Cadet Boys’ Singles was won by Amiral Hussain of Lancashire, whose only tight match was in the quarter-finals against Sam Chesterman of Cambridgeshire, when Hussain won in five. In the semi-finals, Hussain beat Aadil Anand, and then Ethan Walsh in the final, both by three straight.

The event that produced the closest final was the Cadet Girls’ Singles, as Jasmine Wong beat Ruby Chan 11-9 in the decider. Chan did well to beat the second seed Hannah Ward of Nottingham, in five games in the semi-final, whilst Wong won in straight games against Charlotte Weatherby of Durham.

The Under-12 Boys’ Singles was won by Adam Szabo of Yorkshire, who beat Naphong Boonyaprapa of Nottinghamshire by 3-1 in the final. Szabo defeated Connor Green, also of Nottinghamshire, in the semi-final, whilst Boonyaprapa beat Toby Ellis of Lancashire in straight games.

The Under-12 Girls’ Singles was won by Amy Marriott of York, who beat Cleveland’s Lucy Gent in straight games in the semi-final followed by Lola McGhee, also of Cleveland, in the final.

The Boys’ team event was dominated by Ormesby, who won both the Junior and Cadet events.

The Junior event was a victory for Ormesby, with the team consisting of Joe Clark and Shayan Siraj who beat Swerve’s team of Josh Harland and Alec Ward by 3-0 in the final.

In the semi-final Ormesby won 3-1 against BATTS, after Ethan Walsh had beaten Joe Clark in the first singles.

In the Cadet Boys, the Ormesby team of Joe Cope and Josh Weatherby defeated Kingfisher in a close 3-2 victory, in the final. Cope won two for Ormesby, defeating Jamie Liu in the deciding set, after Josh Weatherby had beaten Liu 11-4 in the fifth.

Kingfisher’s singles win was secured by Reece Chamdal, who beat Weatherby 3-1.

In the semi-final Ormesby had another tight match against Fusion winning 3-2, recovering from 2-0 down. In this match, Weatherby beat Louis Price 3-1 and Cope beat Anand in straight games as well as the doubles.

The Junior Girls’ team event was won by Harefield Academy, whose team consisted of Sarah Menghistab and Zahna Hall. They beat the Swerve team of Holly Williams and Sophie Barlow 3-0.

The Cadet Girls was won by Ackworth, whose team consisted of Jasmine Wong and Ruby Chan, who beat Dret Charles Read Academy by 3-1 in the final, with Hannah Ward and Darcie Proud winning the doubles for the lone Dret victory.
