The Ormesby players dominated the club’s own 2* Open Senior Championships that were played at the club last weekend.

The most successful player was Sam Kwan, who  won both the Men’s Singles and the Under-21 singles.

Kwan beat Yorkshire’s Joe Killoran 3-1 in the senior final, having defeated Swerve’s Nuradin Muktar in a close five-set match in the semi-finals.

Joe Killoran defeated Jack Cope in the other semi-final, by 3-0, after Cope had beaten top seed Kevin Dolder of Cheshire in the quarter-finals.

Kwan’s second title was the Under-21 Singles, where he beat team-mates Kieran Wardell in the semi-final and Cope in the final, both by 3-0.

The Veterans’ Singles was won by Dave Ashwell, after a three-way countback with Peter Wilkinson and Alan Thompson. Wilkinson was second after beating Ashwell but lost the title by losing to Thompson.

The Band 2 Singles was won by Cope after a very narrow final, where he beat David Gofton 11-8 in the fifth. Cope did well to beat Muktar in straight games in the semi-final, whilst Gofton also excelled to beat Jack Cope by 3-1.

Division 3 Singles was won by Wardell, who took a fivegame match against Yorkshire’s Joe Wright. Wardell also did well to beat Sam Bailey of Swerve in the semi-final.
