Tom Jarvis has been named Young Sportsman of the Year at the Lincolnshire Sports Awards – and his England colleague Alex Ramsden has won the same award in Northamptonshire.
The 14-year-old Jarvis, from Skegness, won the accolade in a year which has seen him win the Spanish Youth Open, Cadet National Championships and both singles and team events at the Sainsbury’s School Games.
The award was picked up on his behalf by his father as Tom was away at the Hungarian Youth Open.
Tom said: “I feel very honoured to have won this prestigious award. I was disappointed not to be able to collect it in person, however had I been there I would have thanked my sponsors – Tees Sport, Skegness Grammar School, my coaches and my family.
“I am proud to help to raise the profile of table tennis.”
Alex is the reigning under-14 National singles and doubles champion and has represented England at the Cadet Six Nations and, last week, at the Hungarian Open – his first appearance on the World Tour.
Alex’s coach Greg Yarnall, from Westfield Table Tennis Club in Wellingborough, was named Community Coach of the Year at the same awards.
