This week there are several photographs that were taken at the English Junior Open at Bridlington from 25-27th May 1991. Oh how tracksuits and playing kit have changed since then. The pictures are all of England, Ireland, Scotland or Wales teams. Does anyone know the missing names and where the various players finished in the tournament in both team and individual events?

Entrants to the Open came from USSR, Germany, Sweden, Poland, Canada, Greece, Italy and France amongst other countries.

Event:  World Veterans’ Championships, Over 60s-70s

Venue: G-Mex, Manchester

Date: June 1998

Information: This was the first (and only) time that a Team Event was played at a Veterans’ World Championships. Ellenborough A and B teams reached the semi-finals. There opponents were two Japanese teams, Young Cherry (two of their players were Kazuko Ito and Akiko Tosa) and Aitaku Aichi (Tsunek Tanabe and Miai Kato). I do not know which team were the champions.

People: Ivor Montagu, serviette tucked in, and Victor Barna are on the top table. On Ivor Montagu’s immediate right is Jupp Schlaf (Germany) and next to him is Roy Evans (Wales). Second right of Ivor Montagu is Nancy Evans (Wales) and the extreme right of the top table is Mischa Kapetanic (Yugoslavia).

Colin Clemett is third from the left on the first table facing. Third to the right of Colin (looking at the photograph) is Sever Danet (Romania) and next to him with the glasses is Jean Mercier (France).

Other information: Although the picture is marked as Vienna, 1951 Colin does not think this is accurate. However, it is likely to be an ETTU occasion and could be at the 1966 European Championships.
