Award-winning Bishop Auckland TTC are once again celebrating after scooping another prize. At the County Durham Sport ‘Sport and Physical Activity Awards 2016’ the club won the Junior Sports Club of the Year 15/16.
This means the club has completed the hat-trick of club awards after winning National Table Tennis Club of the year back in March, local sports awards for Mid-Durham and Dales last month, and now the County award.
This is the second time in three years that the club has earned the title, having won it back in 2013.
The award-winning season saw the club finish a £30,000 hall renovation project at Bishop Barrington School, giving them a national-standard training facility, with work under way to make further improvements. The club won the National Cadet League and National Junior League, both title-winning teams going unbeaten throughout the season on top of many singles titles for the members.
The club has several primary feeder clubs, has introduced further satellite clubs this season; now running seven, including a Special Olympics club.
Club Chairman Matt Porter said:
“This award really means a lot to the club, as it’s local people who nominate and local people who sit on the panel. It shows that the objectives of the club are being met; which is offering the community pathways and opportunities to achieve in table tennis. The fact local people have picked us means they know the opportunities we provide and the achievements of the members.”
BATTC are always looking for new members of all ages and abilities, along with engaging with community groups, schools and businesses. For more information, visit the club website or call Matt Porter on 07411 018856.
