Over 150 women and girls took part in a special event on Monday aimed at getting ethnic minority females active in Dewsbury. The event organised by Kirklees Council Integrated Youth Support Services was held at Kick Off Recreation Centre and offered a carousel of activities including Badminton, Five a Side Football and Table Tennis including an exhibition and coaching. Feedback regarding the Table Tennis was really positive with the girls being amazed at the speed of the sport and many of them requesting opportunities to take up the sport.
The Kick Off Centre are now hoping to offer Table Tennis as a daytime and evening activity for community groups and are currently submitting a Sportivate Bid through Yorkshire Sport Foundation. Also the local Madni Muslim Girls School are looking to add Table Tennis to their curriculum.
