There were just 12 entrants in the Horsham Spinners TTC Championships which took place at the club’s base in Forest School. This is about half the club members.

There were six age groups, with all players taking part in two categories: U11s, U12s, U13s, U14s, U15s and U16s. The winner of each age group went into the Overall Club Championship Draw.

Three players won two age groups each, so there were only three players going forward into the overall club championships draw. Just four players won all eight of the available medals between them.

Under-11

There were three players in the U11s. All three matches were completed in three comfortable ends, with Freddie Marchant the winner, Tom Pearson the runner-up and James Knight in third place.

Under-12

U12s contained the exact same players as the U11s and the exact same results were repeated.

Under-13

There was also one group of three in the U13s. Top seed, Ollie Michell, was defeated 11-9, 11-4, 11-9 by Zach Hodges. Marti Petrov lost both of his matches 3-0.

Under-14

In the U14s there were two groups of three. No 1 seed, Ollie Michell, won his group, defeating Pisti Olexa and Petrov both in straight sets. Olexa beat Petrov 3-0.

Second seed, Zach Hodges, won his group, beating Cameron Cornell and Ed Cozens 3-0 and 3-1 respectively. Cozens beat Cornell in three.

In the semis, Cozens overturned Michell in four and Hodges prevailed in three vs Olexa. In the final, Hodges repeated his four-set victory over Cozens, including a whitewash in the fourth end. Michell beat Olexa three straight for third place. Petrov beat Cornell in the consolation final 3-1.

Under-15

As with the U14s, there were two groups of three in the U15s. Top seed, Will Michell, won his group, winning both his matches in three games, but he was extended to 13-11, 11-6, 12-10 by Ollie Thorne, who beat Freddie King in three to come second in the group.

In Group 2, Cozens proved too strong for Olexa and Cornell, winning both in three, while Olexa saw off Cornell also in three.

In the semi-finals, Cozens knocked out Thorne in four and Michell put Olexa out in three. In the final, Cozens managed to nick an end off Michell, who therefore won 3-1. In the closest match of the tournament (indeed the only match to go to five ends), Thorne scraped a narrow 3-2 victory over Olexa in the third/fourth place play-off (13-11, 6-11, 11-9, 4-11, 15-13). In the consolation final King beat Cornell 3-0.

Under-16

The three players in this group finished in the following order: 1) Will Michell, 2) Ollie Thorne, 3) Freddie King, with all three matches being three straight.

Overall Club Championships

In the semi-final, Will Michell saw off Marchant in three and then in the final took out Hodges, also in three, to take his third successive Overall Club Championships gold medal.

In the fact, the year previous to his first win, which was the inaugural event, he had lost in the final to Freddie Goodall. An interesting statistic for these club championships is that out of 39 matches which took place, 32 of them were 3-0 (six were 3-1).
