The fourth and final Jarvis Sports Horsham Spinners TTC 2 Star of the 2016-17 season took place on 2nd July 2017 at the College of Richard Collyer, Horsham. There was a massive entry of 97 entrants for this one, which is probably the biggest ever.

U11s

There were 23 players in the U11s. The seeds all won their groups and there were no shocks in Round 1.

In the quarter-finals, top seed James Hamblett (He) beat Sam Gabriel (Mi) 3-0, Jenson Moreno (Mi) beat Joe Hunter (Mi) 3-1, Max Wilson (Sx-Brighton City TTC) beat Maliha Baig (E) 3-2, having lost the first two ends and Daniel Clark (Sy) beat Daniel Ikhlef (Sx) in three close games.

In the semis, Hamblett defeated Moreno in straight sets and Wilson did the same to Clark. The final was a 3-1 win for Hamblett. Moreno beat Clark 3-0 for third place and the bronze medal. Tommy Lyons (Mi) beat Emily Cheung (Sy) in the consolation final 3-1.

U12s

There were 18 players in this age group. There were only two results at the group stage, which did not go according to ranking and both involved fifth seed Wilson, who lost 11-9 in the fifth to Gabriel and 12-10 in the fifth to Moreno.

In the quarter-finals the line-up was as follows: No 1 seed, Todd Stanmore (Ox) beat Hunter 3-0, Hamblett defeated Moreno 3-0, Ben Barbarash (Mi) beat Harshil Shah (Mi) 3-0 and Ben Poulter (Ha) beat Gabriel 3-1.

Stanmore then knocked out Hamblett in the semis 3-1, while Poulter accounted for Barbarash 3-0. The final went to Stanmore in three. Hamblett got the bronze medal with a straight sets win over Barbarash. Wilson won the consolation final 3-0 vs Oliver Cheung, whom he had also beaten in the group.

U13s

There were 25 players in this category. All the seeds won their groups and the Round 1 matches went according to ranking.

Stanmore, again the top seed, got to the final at the expense of Barney Mindlin (Mi) 3-0 and Josh Bruce (Mi) 3-1. Zach Hodges (Sx-Horsham Spinners TTC), seeded five, however had to get there the hard way. He beat Jamie Barlow (Bk) 3-0, third seed Poulter 3-1 and second seed, Ollie Michell (Sx-Horsham Spinners TTC) 3-0. The remaining quarter-finals were Bruce defeating Alessio Marrocco (Sx) 3-2 and Michell accounting for Larry Trumpauskas (K) 3-0.

Hodges got off to a flying start in the final, taking the first two ends, but the momentum shifted and Stanmore seemed to up his game to take the next three. Bruce got the better of Michell in three in the bronze medal match. Isabel Webb (K) overcame James Goncalves (Sy) 3-2 in the consolation final.

U14s

This consisted of 30 players and as has been the case every time this season, the U14s was the biggest event. All of the seeds bar Jacob Evans (Sx-Horsham TTC and Horsham Spinners TTC) won their groups, as Evans lost 1-3 to a clearly under ranked Bruce. Round 1 went according to ranking.

In the quarter-finals, No 1 seed Charlie Graham-Adams (Sx-Horsham Spinners TTC) knocked out Howard Onweng (Sy) in four, Bruce ousted Jack Trafford (Do) in three, meaning he had defeated two previous U15s 2 Star Champions back to back, Owen Brown knocked out Herbie Sage (Dv) 3-0 and Nahom Goitom (Sy) accounted for Jon-Vai Chung (Sy) in four.

In the semis, Graham-Adams saw off Bruce in three and Goitom got his own back on Brown 3-0, for having beaten him in the U15s in the morning. Graham-Adams then beat Goitom 3-2 in the final. Bruce then did well to extend Brown to the fifth end in the bronze medal match, with Brown ultimately winning. Ollie Nutting (Sy) beat Henry Maric-Murray (Sy) in four in the consolation final.

U15s

25 players contested the U15s in seven groups. Just one seed failed to win his group, but Chung was only just ranked below Sage and has since passed him in the rankings. However it is worth pointing out that Mihnea Dascalu (Mi) did very well, beating two players ranked above him in Group 2 (Alejandro Ito-Aramendia (Sy) and Angus Norman (Sy), as well as taking Graham-Adams, the No 2 seed, to the fifth set.

Round 1 matches all went according to plan, but Brown had to come back from 0-2 down vs Yacine Boubekeur (Mi), before winning. Mihnea continued his good form into the quarters, where he unfortunately met top seed, Robert Pelc (Sy), but he gave a very good account of himself, only losing in the fifth end. In the other quarter-finals Valerio Bucci (Mi) took out Trafford in three, Brown knocked out Goitom in four and Graham-Adams stopped Chung in five ends.

Pelc started well in the semis vs Bucci, winning the first two games, but then lost the next three, while Brown got his usual win over Graham-Adams 3-0. Bucci had too much for Brown in the final, winning two of the games very comfortably and winning the match 3-0. Pelc beat Graham-Adams in the bronze medal match in a close four-setter. Onweng beat Kiarash Shaddel (Ox) 3-1 in the consolation final.

U18s

There were 19 players in the U18s. There weren’t any big surprises at the group stage or in Round 1. In the quarters, top seed George Hazell easily beat David McKenzie (Sy) 3-0, Will Poulter (Ha) beat Mohammed Raqueeb (E) 3-0, Will Michell beat Ollie Maric-Murray (Sy) 3-0 and No 2 seed, Robert Pelc accounted for Romanie Hylton (Sy) also 3-0.

There was somewhat of a surprise in the semi-final in that Poulter did extremely well to extend Hazell to the fifth end, before losing, as there is a 730-point gap between the two players. Pelc defeated Michell in a competitive four set match in the other semi.

The final was a straightforward 3-0 win for Hazell. Poulter then beat Michell in four in the bronze medal match. Darius Xavier (K) beat Justin Rathe (Mi) in four in the consolation final.
