A strong OCs A side made a winning start to the Season in the first division of the Chelmsford & District Table Tennis League by beating promoted Danbury B 7-3. Peter Hayden, returning after a one-year’s absence stayed undefeated for OCs but it was Steve Buer whose results really stood out. He beat both Terry Dowsett and Brandon Crouchman. Charles Sweeney picked up the third
Danbury win. It was a good one as well, with Charles defeating Terry Dowsett 11-5, 11-6, 8-11, 9-11, 11-9.

Promoted Elmtree Excalibur B are expected to do well in division two. They made a good start to the Season by beating ECC C 7-3. Gus Heath won his three singles and his hat-trick included a fine 11-6, 18-16, 11-6 win over James Hicks, who won twice for the County Council team.

OCs B are the early leaders in division three. Robbie Burton won his three singles and he received excellent support from Natlic Ravlic and Frank Hodge as they beat Elmtree Excalibur C 8-2. Dave Moles fought back from 2-0 down to get the better of Nat Ravlic 9-11, 8-11, 11-9,11-5, 12-10. Lin Attridge who played for the England Over 50s Ladies B team in the recent Veterans Six Nations Tournament in Dublin won once for Elmtree Excalibur. She beat Frank Hodge in four ends and just missed out against Nat Ravlic losing 6-11, 11-9, 11-3, 7-11, 9-11. Chelmsford C (Paul Nicol, Dave Parker and Ryan Gooday) beat Maldon C 6-4 although none of their side were able to get the better of Dawn Baldry.

In division four Hatfield Peverel C (the Carter family – Ryan, Adam and Dave) beat EPHQ 9-1. Ryan Carter completed what was an excellent evening’s work by getting the better of Francis Whitbread 11-9, 12-10, 8-11, 6-11, 11-8 in a fiercely fought last game of the evening. OCs E also made a winning start.

Daniel Berry won his three singles as they beat Danbury L 8-2. Kevin Willis was on target for Danbury. He defeated Charlie Mariner 7-11, 11-8, 10-12,11-9, 14- 12. OCs D did well to beat Chelmsford D 6-4, good going since none of their players were able to get the better of Bob Francis.

OCs G beat Danbury M 6-4 in division five. Tom Barker won his three singles for the Old Chelmsfordians side whilst Scott Perry won twice for Danbury. Barker beat Perry very narrowly 7-11, 12-10, 14-12, 13-11 in their individual encounter.
