Oxford’s Veteran players are enjoying a fine season in the Midland League and have won all their matches so far. The “A” team, competing in the first of the four divisions, has beaten Nuneaton A 6-4, defending champions Nottingham A 7-3 and Birmingham A 10-0. Captain Karl Bushell has led the way with 8/9, ably supported by Andy Misseldine (6/6), Jeff Rigby (3/3) and newcomer Alan Cherry (4/9). With matches still to play at Leamington and Nottingham B, and at home to Stafford, the team is in a good position to challenge for a first ever trophy at this level. The “B” side also has a strong squad, now playing in Division 2 after being promoted, and has recorded victories over Derby A (7-3) and Shrewsbury B (9-1). Mark Scott, Tony Stead and Neil Hurford are unbeaten, while Anders Markvardsen, Glen Freeman and Nigel Taylor have each won 2/3.
