Elmtree Graphics B were the week’s big winners in division one of the Chelmsford &District
Table Tennis League. Paul Lucas and Gary Cattermole were both undefeated as they beat Danbury A 9-1. Elmtree Graphics A also won this week, they beat Maldon B 7-3 with Gary Baker and Gary Young both winning their three singles. Maldon A who still have some games outstanding were hard-pushed to beat ECC B 6-4. Paul Sayer won his three singles which included a 3-11,12-10, 11-8,12-10 win over Rik James whilst Hamish Innes in his first
game after a lengthy lay-off because of injury, beat both Alistair Hill and Simon Webber.

Division two leaders Danbury D (Steve Buer, Chris Buer and Andrew Halling) made it 14 wins out of 16 by beating ECC C 7-3. Andrew Halling won his three singles and he beat James Hicks, ECC’s best player 11-7, 8-11, 11-4, 11-8. Chelmsford A are in second place and they beat Danbury C (7-3) and Writtle B (6-4). Chelmsford’s Waseem Qureshi won his three singles against Danbury whilst Writtle’s Gary Ward took the top billing in the latter game. Danbury B had Glen Laing undefeated as they beat Hatfield Peverel A 7-3.

Division three leaders Elmtree Excalibur D were unable to field their best team against Hatfield Peverel C and they were held to a draw. Russell Mills won his three singles for Elmtree Excalibur. The match between ECC D and Danbury F finished tied at 5-5. ECC‘s Peter Layzell and Richard Storey and Danbury‘s Gordon Gatherall and Rob Kneale all won twice.
OCs B were 7-3 winners against Danbury E. Robbie Burton won his three singles whilst Frank Hodge won twice and just missed out against Herbie Smith after a marathon game: 5-11,9-11, 14-12,11-5, 13-15.

In division four the leaders Maldon C beat second-placed Danbury G 6-4 despite the fact that it was Danbury’s Dave Marsh who won his three singles. Brian Riedling and Tom Elder both
won twice for Maldon. Danbury G did better against EPHQ winning 8-2. Dave Marsh was again undefeated and John Robinson and Richard Allen both won twice. Elmtree Exclaibur E beat Danbury H 8-2. Paul Sturton and John Marshall both won their three singles.

Chelmsford E scored three wins in division five beating Chelmsford F (6-4), OCs G (8-2) and Hatfield Peverel E (9-1). Ryan Gooday and Ian Austin both won eight out of their nine singles. Ian Austin missed out against Dan Thomas (Chelmsford F) 11-6,9-11, 11-7, 4-11,8-11 whilst Ryan Gooday lost to Stuart Wintle (OCs) 11-8,8-11, 11-5, 6-11, 5-11. OCs G also lost 7-3 to Highwood. Stuart Wintle won his three singles but the Highwood trio – Martin Goddard, Kevin Barber and Anne Lockhart all won twice. Abs Gupta just missed out against Kevin Barber 13-11, 5-11,11-9, 9-11, 7-11.

Emily Wood was on fine form for ECC G in their match against Felsted in the CLICK League. She beat both Sam Porter and Ashley Butler but Felsted secured their 3-2 win in the deciding doubles. Porter and Butler beat Emily Wood and Nathan Blore 11-3, 11- 9, 11-3, 5-11, 11-9.
