The Leicester & District League’s summer competition got off to a flying start with all four matches played on time and just one maximum across the field when the ever improving Dan Woolman notched six from six for Electric City when they defeated Desford Dynamos 14-6 in Group B, and he gave points away all round.
He received good support from Ian Knight with four from six while Bryan Moylan, the allocated doubles player, grabbed two from four, the same in the doubles. Keith Adams, as wily as ever, was the best on view for Desford with three successes.
The other match in this group saw Casualties visit Knighton Park to play KP Nutters, coming away with a hard fought 12-8 success with a good all-round team performance, Tony Burns with four, Wes Glauds three and Nick Bishop two, the latter playing the two doubles with a 3-1 return. For KP Robert Geary won four while Mike Smith took two from his four.
In Group A, Ross Adams for Abbots All Stars gave nine points to The Itinerants’ Laszlo Kocsis and won both to give his side a decent start and then beat Phil Tomlin giving away 12 just before the doubles to give his side a decisive 6-2 lead they never lost. Adams was backed by four from Vishal Parmar while Ketan Patel won two.
The three Itinerant players, Kocsis, Tomlin and Roger Burley, all won two with the latter beating Adams later in the match to make the score a respectable 12-8 to the All Stars.
It was a clash of Knighton Park teams in the other match when No Parking defeated KP The Bus 13-7 with Andy Searle notching five and George McClurkin four. John Underwood won one singles but helped his team to a 3-1 doubles success. For The Bus, Martin Pember 3/6 and Simon Aldis 2/4 balanced their books but still lost 13-7.
