Results from Division One of the Leicester and District League are a little sparse of late but an unusual one to come through was that of AW Wolvey beating Knighton Park II 6-4.
Bearing in mind each of the three players plays one another in groups of three the score went 3-0, 3-3, 6-3 so that Gareth Edmunds, Nigel Metcalfe and Mark Rose all won two for Wolvey, George McClurkin, Karen Smith and Richard Hayes all one for KP.
Holwell Sports had a very good 8-2 victory over Electricity’s first team when Adam Feargrieve and Mark Green both emerged undefeated while Martin Brunning took two, beaten only by Andy LeButt. In both of these cases the winning team gave the doubles away to make scores a little less stark.
Desford Village maintained a very big lead at the head of Division Two when they defeated their own second team 7-3, depriving the latter of a chance of second place. Phil Pagett scored a maximum and was supported by two each from Malcolm Truman and Neil Matthams. Kevin Parker won two for the second team.
Taking advantage to secure second position on their own were Knighton Park IV, who beat Holwell Sports II 7-3, the latter thus losing ground in an excellent battle for the runners-up spot between five teams. In this case Zia Malik and Osman Bawa both won three and Andy Searle one. For Holwell Dave Roche and Mike James each won one and they took the doubles for what might be a useful point.
Abbots Road also maintained an interest and are two points adrift of KP after just getting home 6-4 against Arnesby II who had Rhys Emery in superb form and unbeatable, taking all three in three straight. Abbots had strength in depth with Geoff Hancock, Fahed Sacoor and Vishal Parmar all taking two.
The fifth team just hovering on the second place fringes is Regent Sports who hammered Goons 9-1, the latter destined for the drop. Richard Anderson and Jacob Poole each gained three, Charlie Bateman two, beaten by Anton Thomas who at least prevented the full house.
While the leaders, Knighton Park VII, had a week off in Division Three those also vying for promotion had a good time of it by closing the gap with close fought victories.
Abbots Road II got the better of Goons by 7-3 thanks to Steve Pratt spearheading with a maximum which included an 11-9 in the fifth success against Keven Edwards who won one for Goons. Raju Rahul supported with two while Bhulesh Rathod won one. Paul Hinson was Goons’ most successful player with two.

Unicorn IV are down the table somewhat but have a couple of matches in hand and could catch those aiming for promotion. They just got home 6-4 against Knighton Park VI when Ron Forster won three and Guan Mei Zhang two, these two getting home in the doubles for full points. Steve Bessant won two for the Park.
Lutterworth went back to their winning ways at the top of Division Four with a 9-1 thrashing of Blaby and Whetstone. Three each for Kevin Jones and Mike Eastell while John Pulford supplied two, beaten only by Alan Willson, Blaby, up from five last term, being at full strength.
It is a three-horse race at the top now with Abbots Road III coming up on the rails having beaten Lutterworth last week, defeating Regent Sport III by the full 10-0 margin when Eiz Eddin Al Katrib, Bradley Lapworth and Ketan Patel proved unstoppable on the night.
Syston Casuals III are maintaining pace with Abbots having defeated the young Knighton Park VIII for whom Michael Parker took two and combined with Alex Randle to win the doubles to claim a point. But Syston had Ian Lockington in good form and unbeaten with good support from Tony Monteiro and Nick Bishop both gaining a brace.
Closest result in this division saw Nomads II draw 5-5 with Electricity VI when Chris Weston and Terry Wale won two each for Nomads and the doubles while, for the Sparks, Dave Cox and Dave Bray each notched a pair and Graham Piggin one.
Abbots Road IV are one of four teams in Division Five near the top looking for promotion and they did their chances no harm at all when they defeated close rivals, Knighton Park X by 6-4. Kishen Mistry scored a maximum as did Sameer Shaikh, although his included two taken at deuce in the fifth game. All winning one for the Park were Mike Smith, Phil Wood and Bill Walmsley.
