The two Electricity teams in Division One of the Leicester & District League were involved in two interesting matches with the first team drawing 5-5 with Arnesby, who had James Lancaster and Ian Brown in good form, winning two each and the doubles. Andy LeButt and Chris Brewer each took a pair for the Sparks with David Grundy supplying the other.
Electricity’s second team defeated Syston Casuals 8-2 with the latter’s Lucky Obi supplying the two. Adam Pettitt took a very good maximum for the Sparks while Marcin Kasprzyk has clearly settled into his new role, promoted from Division Three, taking two, Harry White also gaining a pair.
Meanwhile Unicorn firsts were consolidating their position at the top of the chart with a very competent 7-3 victory over Knighton Park II. George Briskolas and Lois Peake each scored maximums while Tim Sheppard supplied a useful one.
Knighton Park III dropped their first points of the season in Division Two in a 5-5 draw with Winstanley Wizards who had Dan Andrews in fine form in taking a maximum supported by two from Himansu Mishra. For the Park Oscar Bentley notched two and there was one each from Vishaal Sharda and Patrick Cox.
While KP are way ahead at the top there are now four teams absolutely locked together for the runners-up spot including the Wizards who are on 38 points, the same as both Desford Village and Regent Sports, while Arnesby are four points behind but a game in hand.
Another good maximum came from Rhys Emery for Arnesby against Electricity III in a 7-3 victory with Dave Small supporting with two and one from Dave Wagstaff. Best performance by the Sparks came from Andy Wright who was playing up from three.
Desford Village maintained their interest in second position in an emphatic way by beating Great Glen 9-1 with Jessica Birbeck and Arun Jogi both emerging undefeated while Neil Matthams won two, beaten only by Alex Mason who at least prevented the full house.
Regent Sports, meanwhile, were losing their clear second position when they went down 7-3 to the Knighton Park fourth team who had Osman Bawa in fine fettle and unbeaten with Zia Malik gaining a brace and Mike Lapworth chipping in with one. Kevin Sanderson was Regents best performer in notching two.
Two teams are now moving away at the top of Division Three but you might not get a sheet of bronco between the other 10 teams, all of whom will be looking over their shoulders for a few weeks yet to make sure they don’t fall into the relegation zone permanently.
Top team, Holwell Sports II, gave Knighton Park V a bit of a lesson by winning 9-1, Dave Sharpe, Dave Roche and Mike James all undefeated with KP given a consolation doubles. There were some excellent maximums in this division not least Scott Robinson’s for Goons against Regent Sports II in a 6-4 defeat. For Regent Keith Bramhall, playing up from four, scored a very good success over Graham Cutler.
The most telling three came from Andy Wright, supplementing his two in Division Two and spearheading Electricity V to a 6-4 victory over Unicorn III to provide quite a bit of daylight between his team and the one in third position. Dan Woolman took two and Bryan Moylan one to complete the Spark’s returns.
Dave Mountain scored three for Knighton Park VI in a 6-4 win over Electricity IV, Martin Taylor did the same for Nomads against Fleckney, again in a 6-4 success, while Chetan Tailor’s unbeaten return for Syston Casuals opposing Abbots Road ensured a 5-5 draw in a week of very close calls.
The two Nomads teams in Division Four both came in for 9-1 hammerings, the second team at the hands of Desford Village III who had Alan Oxbrough and Luke Blair winning three while Keith Adams lost to Terry Wale who just about spared the losing team’s blushes.
Lutterworth defeated Nomads III by the same score when Colin Jones and Kevin Jones, not related I understand, both emerged undefeated while Mike Eastell won two, finding Phil Tomlin a little too much to handle as the latter confirmed recent good form by preventing the whitewash.
