The first team to top one of the groups in the Leicester & District League’s summer competition for the Elbow Tankard came by way of a comedy of errors default in Group A when Jurassic Park could not get into their premises to entertain Abbots All Stars.

As a result the match was conceded which meant Abbots take top position although, to be honest, they were so far ahead it may not have made any difference. Abbots have one match remaining against Knighton The Town who need to win not only to finish as runners-up but to stand a chance of grabbing the one best runners-up spot for a place in the semi-finals.

Knighton TT won 13-7 against Fleckney Flyers thanks to a good team performance in depth, Simon Aldis three from four while Robert Geary and Steve Bessant both took four from six with a share of the doubles. For Fleckney, Bob Palmer won three.

KP Young Ones took the Group B title when they defeated Fleckney Flames 15-5 with Brajesh Patel winning all six in great style while Patrick Cox won his four singles as well as the four doubles.

In this group Abbots Renegades are favourites to take the runners up spot and need to beat Ian’s Wizards for their crack at a semi-final place with a good points tally.

Group C still has two matches outstanding, both are Park and Ride against Casualties. Park and Ride overwhelmed Villagers to the tune of 18-2 with James Lancaster, Shirley Pickering and John Bowness all on song, Keith Adams and Gillian Wisdish the two consolation games.

Meanwhile Casualties were going down 12-8 to Electric City who, if they don’t eventually win this group, probably have the best chance of best runner up. The Sparks’ 12-8 success was hard fought with Bryan Moylan five from six, Andy Wright three from six and Andy Searle two. Lucki Obi won four for Casualties.
