Refugees from Syria who have recently arrived in Leeds were recently brought together for a Table Tennis tournament in the rather grand surroundings of Leeds Town Hall on Tuesday 29th December. The event was part of a Ping! Leeds legacy programme organised by Leeds City Council to help familiarise their community with sports opportunities within the city. The tournament was open to all ages and attracted an entry of over 20 players who competed in a round robin format on two Ping! Leeds legacy tables which were supervised by The Syrian Leeds Community leader Fawaz Alghofari and Leeds Ping Activator Peter Thompson. It is hoped that this will become a regular monthly activity in their programme of community events.
