Adam Jepson of Archway Peterborough Table Tennis Club won the second ‘Chip & Ping’ senior 1* open held at the TOP TABLE venue in Peterborough.

The outcome went right down to the wire in the last match of the day when local favourite Jepson, aged 21, overcame Sam Wilson (Corby, Northamptonshire) to finish the day unbeaten and claim the title.

Sixteen players from across the country competed in two groups of eight for the £350 prize money and England ranking points. The Jepson – Wilson clash was a pulsating encounter of classic ‘attack versus defence’ where Jepson’s attacking power and consistency got the better of the gallant Wilson, 3-1.

Up until then, both players were unbeaten, however, they did not have it all their own way during the round-robin format, both coming back from losing positions.

Group 2 was won by Nick Hart (Cambridgeshire) who just edged out Archway’s Julian Tee who clinched the runners-up slot. Other Archway Peterborough players competing included Jacub Kurowski, who unfortunately sustained an injury and withdrew half way through, and Steven Gray who acquitted himself well to finish third.

Archway development squad is open to all Under-18s on Monday-Thursday from 4.30-6pm – beginners welcome.
