Table tennis success runs in the family for youngster George Campbell.

The 12-year-old member of the BATTS club in Harlow recently won an outstanding achievement award from the Jack Petchey Foundation for his dedication and commitment to the sport.

He was nominated by his club coaches and wins £200 to put towards a club project to buy an outdoor table.

The youngster is following in some illustrious footsteps – his grandmother Doris Campbell (nee Rivett) was one of the leading players in England after the war and was a doubles partner of Johnny Leach, who was the last English player to be singles world champion in 1951.

George took his grandmother, 88, along to BATTS to see him play during the Easter Holiday training camps, and Doris inspired young club members by showing off a box of medals she won during her career.

George is pictured with his Jack Petchey Foundation certificate, while Doris is holding the winner’s medal from the Wembley Open in 1947.
