Bishop Auckland Table Tennis Club will host a free Disability Open Day on Sunday February 5 to highlight the inclusive nature of table tennis and how anyone can play the sport.

The club is a Table Tennis England Ability Club, which means its coaches have done disability training and the club is wheelchair friendly and has suitable equipment for wheelchairs and other disabilities. The club has several national ranked players in the disability rankings.

Chairman Matthew Porter said:

We want to show truly how inclusive the sport of table tennis is. Part of the club’s aim is to provide table tennis for everyone in the community and break down barriers of community cohesion, we believe that table tennis is for everyone and days like this we can show how sport can bring people together and help improve people’s aspirations and self-esteem.”

The day will see lots of fun games and activities for people to try as well as polybat, there will be free tables for open play and everyone is welcome. Learning or physical disabilities and carers are welcome too.

The event is from 10am to 2pm at the club at Bishop Barrington School, Woodhouse Lane, Bishop Auckland, Dl14 6LA
