Frank Burbidge kept up his 100 per cent start to the season in Division Two of the Clacton & District League with two tip-top treble performances.
Burbidge won all three in Windsor Owls’ drawn match with Lawford, recording excellent victories over Paul Hewitt, Richard Spence and Ian Sherwood. It was Hewitt’s first reverse of the season.
And Burbidge made it a double hat-trick as the Owls went on to defeat Nomads Tigers 7-3 – although it was a hard-fought match against Eric Lemke which Burbidge eventually won 3-2 (4-11, 11-5, 9-11,11-8, 11-5). Adam Jackson took two for the Owls and Sue Watson one, whilst John Marshall won twice for the Tigers.
In their second match of the week, Lawford brushed past Windsor Magpies 10-0, although Dave Sweetland did well to take Paul Hewitt the distance, as did John Plummer against Ian Sherwood.
Nomads Ocelots and Brotherhood C enjoyed a good scrap and, appropriately for two evenly matched teams, the match ended with honours even. Gary Stallwood won his three for Brotherhood, with Laurence Torr and Fred Gallone each adding a precious point, although it was a narrow 11-7 in the decider for Gallone against Harry Hawkes. Brian Parish and Peter Giles won two each for the Ocelots, Parish defeating Torr 11-3 in the fifth and Giles beating Gallone 11-8 in the fifth.
There were first hat-tricks of the season for Jenny Higgins and Ferdy Rodriguez as Windsor Harriers beat Nomads Jaguars 9-1 but the pair failed to take their doubles for the Harriers, Kevin Hume and Andy North edging a see-saw match 3-2 (2-11, 11-5, 7-11, 11-5, 11-9).
Paul Alden and Lee Harvey stayed unbeaten as Brotherhood D defeated Brotherhood F 9-1, the closest match of the evening seeing Alden beat Barry Allen 11-6 in the fifth. Lee Allen provided the consolation point for the F side with victory over Shaun Beckham.
In Division Three Windsor Buzzards and Nomads Lynx are emerging as the class teams, and both enjoyed 10-0 wins this week.
The Buzzards breezed past club-mates Windsor Swallows with something to spare and although the Lynx pocketed all 10 points at the expense of Nomads Wildcats, they were pushed somewhat harder, Peter Miller having to be at his best to out-point Paul Dale 3-2 (11-13, 11-8, 11-8, 5-11, 11-6).
Brotherhood G conceded three points through fielding a guest player against Windsor Kites but it was otherwise plain sailing for Graham Parkes and Brian Baines who took it 7-3. Parkes’ 3-1 (10-12, 11-1, 11-6, 11-5) success against Chris Simson was the only match not settled in three.
Nomads Leopards were 9-1 victors over Nomads Bobcats, Laurie Farrugia’s 3-2 (4-11, 9-11, 11-9, 12-10, 11-8) win over Norman Jacobs the sole point for the losers.
Brotherhood A recorded the first whitewash result this season in Division One when they defeated struggling Windsor Ravens 10-0. Only one match went the distance, Martyn Green beating John Harvey 13-11, 9-11, 4-11, 11-5, 11-5.
Fred Button made a welcome return to the Windsor Eagles’ side against Walton A and his 3-1 (7-11, 11-9, 11-8, 11-9) win over Colin Dearman in match 10 prevented his side from having a totally blank evening, Walton ending as 9-1 victors.
A John Hatley maximum was the highlight of Nomads Lions’ 7-3 success against Windsor Kestrels. John Fenton contributed two and Adam Wilkin one for the Lions whilst Dave Martin was the Kestrels’ best player, defeating Fenton 11-6 in the fifth and then Wilkin by a nerve-jangling 3-2 (14-16, 10-12, 11-8, 11-6, 13-11).
Four of the matches went to five and no one remained unbeaten as Walton B edged past Windsor Hawks 6-4. Graham Buxton, Gavin Price and John Rankin all won two each for Walton, Buxton being involved in the closest match when he defeated Andy Vincent 12-10 in the decider. Felipe Rodriguez took two for the Hawks with wins in three-straight against Buxton and Price but went down 11-8 in the fifth to Rankin.
