An unbeaten Alan Charman was the Windsor Penguins’ hero as his side defeated Walton D 7-3 in Division Three of the Clacton & District League.
Charman’s toughest battle was against the doughty John Long, the Penguins’ No 1 eventually taking it 3-2 (11-8, 10-12, 11-7, 6-11, 11-6). His team-mate Darren Bunce contributed two and Jackie Bunce one, a close 3-2 (10-12, 7-11, 11-8, 11-9, 11-7) success over Lynette Sparks. Long took two for Walton with their third point coming from a Toni Hayhow-Khan victory against Jackie Bunce.
Three for Morgan Harvey, and two each for Harley Wood and Maci Harvey, helped Brotherhood J to an 8-2 win against Nomads Ocelots. Arthur Wells-Garrett, who took the Ocelots’ two points, had an interesting evening, beating Maci Harvey 11-3 in the fifth and Wood 3-1 (9-11, 23-21, 11-9, 11-8) but going down to Morgan Harvey 18-16 in the fifth.
Nomads Lynx’ unbeaten start to the season ended with a 6-4 defeat at the hands of Nomads Leopards. Bob Jillins, Dave Wright and Stuart Wilkinson took two each for the winners whilst Mike Vilka won twice but lost out to Jillins. Dominic Joannou of the Lynx went down 11-7 in the fifth in a tight match with Wright but enjoyed a victory in three-straight over Jillins.
Despite an excellent hat-trick for Sharon Gowlett and a point from Diane Self, the battle of the two new Windsor teams went the way of the Robins over the Merlins. Bob Bales and Oleksandra Klymenko got two each for the Robins and shared an 11-8 in the decider doubles victory over Gowlett and Viv Rodriguez. But it was Jo Parsey’s debut League win which tipped the scales 6-4 in favour of the Robins.
In Division One Nomads Panthers returned to winning ways with a 7-3 victory over Walton A, James Denyer taking three, Paul Hume two and John Hatley one. Hume’s 3-2 (10-12, 16-14, 9-11, 11-4, 11-9) win over Jared Chelski was the tightest tie of the evening. Daniel Young was Walton’s best player, beating both Hume and Hatley.
Brotherhood C notched up their third 7-3 success of the season, this time against Walton B. Alan Burgess and Martin Edwards both took hat-tricks although it was the same narrow 11-9 in the fifth score for Burgess against Colin Dearman and for Edwards against Derek Willis. Dearman, Willis and reserve Mark Gale took a point each for the losers.
Fortunes changed for Walton C who, having lost all five matches which went the distance in their previous fixture, this week snaffled all four matches which went to five for themselves, eventually drawing their encounter with Nomads Lions. Every player on show took a point with no-one staying undefeated. Graham Buxton won two for Walton, both he and Ant Beckles beating Lions’ reserve Liam Harris by the same 11-7 in the decider scoreline. John Rankin chipped in with an 11-9 in the decider victory over Ethan Lloyd but the closest point was the doubles, Beckles and Buxton beating Harris and Ethan Lloyd 14-12 in the fifth. For the Lions, Jason Lloyd and Ethan Lloyd took two each, and Harris one.
Lawford’s Paul Hewitt is in a rich vein of form, beating Andy Vincent, Felipe Rodriguez and George Berry to take a maximum in his side’s match with Windsor Hawks. And although Richard Spence enjoyed a good win over Berry, the Hawks took the honours 6-4, Vincent and Rodriguez getting a pair apiece. The crucial match proved to be Berry’s 3-2 (11-13, 12-10, 12-10, 6-11, 11-8) victory over James Tindle.
In Division Two no-one remained unbeaten as the Walton E v Brotherhood H match ended in an honourable draw. The only match which went the distance was Mark Gale’s tight 3-2 (12-10, 12-14, 10-12, 11-9, 11-8) win for Walton over Frank Burbidge. There were a couple each for Gale and his team-mate Mark Ratcliffe, the pair also sharing a doubles win. Burbidge and Woody Fitzpatrick with two each, and Tricia Salter with one, were Brotherhood’s points-scorers.
A Bob Sawyer hat-trick, a couple from Colin Beaumont and a shared doubles win saw Windsor Kestrels home 6-4 against Windsor Buzzards. John Harvey won a couple for the Buzzards, including an 11-8 in the fifth success over Beaumont, with Ray Chillingworth and Dan Malinowski contributing one each.
Brotherhood F won three of the four matches which went the distance in beating Windsor Harriers 6-4. Barry Allen secured his hat-trick, and his team’s victory, by defeating Ferdy Rodriguez 11-8 in the fifth in the last tie of the evening. Lee Allen won two and Shaun Beckham one for Brotherhood. Jenny Higgins was the Harriers’ best player, her two victories including a fine win over Lee Allen.
Finally, trebles from Liam Harris and Eric Lemke were good enough to give the Bobcats a 7-3 win in the all-Nomads’ encounter with the Jaguars. Kevin Hume, Andy North and Harry Hawkes took one each for the Jaguars, Hume’s 11-4 in the decider success against Mike Wellum the only match which went to five.
