Chelmsford A have been the dominant team in this year’s Central Essex Summer Table Tennis League first division.
They scored wins four and five of a very successful campaign with a 5-0 victory over OCs A and a 4-1 win over Danbury A. Simon Jarvis and Edward Ogbebor were undefeated against OCs whilst Casey Cross won his two singles against Danbury A. Chris Buer was on target for Danbury with a four-game win over Simon Jarvis.
Writtle A haven’t had the best of campaigns and they missed out 5-0 against Liberal. Hector Rogers and Adrian Pitt were both undefeated. Rogers produced a sparkling display against Matthew Brown racing to a 3-0 (11-6, 11-6, 11-6) win.
Division two leaders Cold Norton A suffered their first defeat of the summer when they went down to Chelmsford B 3-2. Wictor Delimat excelled for the Chelmford side and he beat both Tim Cramphorn (12-10, 11-9, 11-9) and Dick Wyman (11-7, 9-11, 11-9, 11-6).
Cold Norton A returned to winning ways against Writtle B and Wyman picked up two excellent wins this time in their 4-1 victory, defeating Louis Brown 3-2 (10-12, 11-2, 13-15, 11-3, 11-7) and Phil Smith 3-0 (11-8, 11-6, 11-9).
Chelmsford B are second and they impressed by beating Ramsden C 4-1. Victor Chan was unbeaten for the Chelmsford side whilst John Gagg got the better of Jarek Pietraszuk 3-2 (11-2, 9-11, 11-4, 9-11, 14-12) in the pick of the night’s action.
Chelmsford B added another four points to their tally by beating Ramsden B 4-1. Wiktor Delimat and Paul Nicol won all four singles. Nicol definitely brought his “A” game to the table against Neil Freeman racing to a 3-0 (11-4, 11-7, 12-10) win.
Further down the table OCs C made no mistake against Ramsden C. Frank Hodge was unbeaten in their 4-1 victory.
Danbury B with four wins out of four lead the way in division three. Tim Pulham and Tony Forster powered to a 5-0 victory against Chelmsford C. Danbury C are in second place but their hopes of taking the title took a big knock when they lost 3-2 to OCs D. Dave Marsh was unbeaten for Danbury C but his team-mate Keith Flowers drew a blank.
OCs D secured their second win of the summer with a 4-1 win against Writtle C. Tom Barker won both of his singles. He had to pull out all the stops to get the better of Dave Moles by a last gasp 3-2 (5-11, 11-6, 11-9, 13-15, 11-9) margin.
The match between Chelmsford C and OCs E was a good one and Chelmsford shaded it 3-2. Gordon Fairchild was undefeated for Chelmsford whilst Dave Parker made his mark with his last-gasp 3-2 (13-11, 8-11, 11-9, 3-11, 12-10) win against Dave Newman in the opening game. Chelmsford C also beat OCs D 3-2 as Fairchild won twice for Chelmsford again.
Danbury C did well to beat Chelmsford D 4-1. Dave Marsh excelled by beating Ryan Gooday in five ends (6-11, 14-12, 6-11, 11-9, 11-8).
Danbury D, the division four leaders, have won all five of their matches. Eamon Hall and Richard Gardiner ran out 4-1 winners against Cold Norton B whilst Davd Gatheral and Gordon Gatheral won by the same scoreline against Chelmsford F. Andy Swales prevailed over five fluctuating ends against Gordon Gatheral (11-8, 6-11, 6-11, 11-2, 11-7).
Chelmsford E ran out narrow 3-2 winners against OCs F. Dusan Doszkoty was undefeated for the Chelmsford team.
Writtle D were also 3-2 winners. Colin Griffiths gave them the edge against Cold Norton B by winning his two singles. Writtle D went one better against Chelmsford E and won 4-1. Colin Griffiths and Tom Griffiths won all four singles. It in fact looked as if they were on the way to a 5-0 win but John Wickins and Andy Swales fought back with a great deal of determination to win the doubles 3-2 (4-11, 8-11, 11-8, 11-6, 11-4).
Danbury E (24 points from six matches) lead the way from OCs G (19 points from five matches) in division five. Ben Porter has not only been ever-present but he has been their ‘kingpin’ with 11 wins out of 12. He and Ewan Hynd cruised to a 5-0 win over Chelmsford H. They also beat Galleywood 5-0 with Porter and Sam Mortimer-Ford pulling the shots this time.
OCs G have the outstanding player in this division – experienced hand Mick Richardson – and he has yet to taste defeat in 10 singles. He coaxed his son Luke to a 4-1 win over Chelmsford G.
The match between the two leading sides – Danbury E and OCs G was fittingly a good one. Porter and Scott Perry both took games off Richardson but they both missed out in four ends. Richardson beat Perry 9-11, 11-3, 11-1, 11-9 and Porter 11-8, 11-3, 6-11, 11-5.
Another vastly experienced player, Shirley Carroll, was undefeated as Maldon edged past Galleywood 3-2. Ron Salton defeated Denis Crapnell 3-2 (11-7, 7-11, 11-9, 5-11, 11-7) in a keenly contested opening game.
Chelmsford Leopards lead the way in the CLICK Division (Division six) and James Donald was unbeaten in their 4-1 win over third-placed Chelmsford Tigers.
They repeated the scoreline with a 4-1 win against Chelmsford Wildcats. Donald was again undefeated although Ellie White beat Al Lane in five ends for the losers. She came out on top 2-11, 11-8, 15-11, 11-3, 11-7.
The match between Danbury F and Chelmsford Rhinos was a close one and the Rhinos shaded it 3-2. Harry Chivers won twice for the Rhinos.
There was another close (3-2) match when Chelmsford Wildcats clashed against Danbury F. Allesha Ellis-Austin gave her team the edge with her two wins.
It was 3-2 again when Chelmsford Tigers beat OCs A. Josh Peargood was undefeated for the OCs side.
