OCs B’s bid to avoid relegation from the first division of the Chelmsford & District Table Tennis League was dealt a severe blow when they were well beaten 9-1 by Galleywood A.

Peter Radford and Lucy Wang were both undefeated for Galleywood whilst OCs had to wait until the last game to get on the scoresheet when Kevin Worthington got the better of Reuben Okai in five games.

Relegated Hatfield Peverel A impressed in Division Two this week, and what’s more they held Rawreth & Hullbridge to a 5-5 draw despite being a player short. Neil Freeman was the star-turn, defeating Gus Heath (3-1), Paul Churn (3-2) and Dick Wyman (3-2) – three excellent wins.

Galleywood B also faced two-man opposition and they took full advantage and ran out 9-1 winners. James Hicks and Gary Brignall both remained undefeated.

Chelmsford A, already crowned champions, slipped to their fourth defeat of the season, against Hatfield Peverel B. Gary Ward won his three singles for the Hatfield Peverel side and he completed his hat-trick with a widely fluctuating 3-2 (11-7, 3-11, 6-11, 17-15, 11-5) success against Waseem Qureshi.

Chelmsford B completed their fixtures in Division Three with an 8-2 win over Hatfield Peverel C and they will have to wait and see if their total of 111 points is good enough for second place. Alastair Piper and Keith Martin both bagged hat-tricks.

Hatfield Peverel C fared better against Danbury F and ran out 6-4 winners. Trevor Collin stole the show with a hat-trick and this included a very impressive quickfire 3-0 (11-7, 11-9, 11-6) success against Dave Marsh.

Danbury F in turn bounced back with a fine 7-3 win over third-placed Chelmsford C. Dave Marsh was undefeated on this occasion and this included a 3-1 (11-7, 11-6, 8-11, 11-6) victory over Paul Nicol – the best of the Chelmsford C players.

Danbury J secured the top spot in Division Four by beating Chelmsford E 7-3. Dave Powell (three wins), Dave Goody (two wins) and Rob Kneale (one win) all played a part in this success. Richard Uspon beat Kneale 3-2 (9-11, 11-9, 5-11, 11-7, 12-10) in the closest game of the evening.

Galleywood C’s 8-2 victory over Hatfield Peverel D sees them climb into second place and they will have to wait for third-placed Danbury H to complete their fixtures to see if they retain that status. David Gatherall won his three singles.
Highwood impressed in Division Five by beating the higher placed OCs H 9-1. Martin Goddard (three wins), Tim Smith (three wins) and Anne Lockhart (two wins) called the shots on this occasion.

Writtle have finished third and they finished their campaign by beating Galleywood D 6-4. Roger Wilson was undefeated for Galleywood whilst Frank Neill, Colin Griffith and Andy Fox all picked up two wins for the Writtle team.

Elmtree Excalibur E ran out 7-3 winners over Chelmsford G. Melanie Bonnett led the way for the Elmtree team.
