It takes a very strong performance to take the spotlight away from division one in the Chelmsford & District Table Tennis League. Wiktor Delimat produced just that and more as he led Chelmsford C to an excellent 6-4 win over OCs B in division two.
Delimat fought back from 2-0 down to beat Stephen Northcott 3-2 (4-11, 5-11, 11-6, 11-8, 12-10) in his first singles and he also beat Trevor Carter 3-0 (11-5, 11-7, 14-12). He completed a magnificent hat-trick by defeating Kevin Worthington 3-1 (6-11, 14-12, 11-4, 11-9).
Maldon B top the table with 23 points and they beat OCs C 8-2. Colin Napper and Hamish Innes both bagged hat-tricks.
The match between Writtle C and Hatfield Peverel B was well contested. Six games were decided in a fifth end and the match fittingly finished tied at 5-5. Gary Ward won his three singles – just – as he beat Dave Fiddeman 3-2 (12-10, 3-11, 4-11, 12-10, 11-9) and prevailed 3-2 (11-8, 5-11, 11-7, 7-11, 16-14) against Neil Freeman.
Sam Lowman impressed as Danbury D beat Danbury E 7-3. Lowman stayed undefeated and Dan Anderson picked up two wins. Neil Want also won his three singles. This gave Danbury C the impetus to beat Maldon C 6-4.
Division one produced three 9-1 scorelines this week. An early indication that some teams are going to struggle or just a case of the better sides playing the teams at the lower end of the table? Chelmsford A top the table by virtue of having played an extra game. They turned in a very strong performance to beat Writtle B 9-1. Casey Cross and Eddie Ogbebor were both undefeated with Cross coming through a really hard fought five ender against Peter Barrett 11-13, 9-11, 12-10, 12-10, 11-9.
However the outstanding result here was the game that Chelmsford lost. Gary Cattermole surged through to a five game victory against Wal Bada 9-11, 7-11, 13-11, 11-5, 11-2.
The favourites Maldon A made it three wins out of three by beating Hatfield Peverel A 9-1. Trevor Lloyd and Alex Abbott were both unbeaten whilst Scott Dowsett impressed for the losers. He powered his way to a 3-0 win over John Poysden.
Writtle A also ran out 9-1 winners. Duncan Taylor and Lee McHugh were both undefeated whilst Matthew Brown only missed out in four ends to Gary Brignall. Brown completed an excellent Writtle team performance by beating Steve Kerns 11-4, 11-9, 11-8 in the last game of the night.
The match between Liberal and OCs A was closer with Old Chelmsfordians winning 7-3. Paul Lucas and Terry Dowsett were both undefeated.
Chelmsford D top the division three table with 24 points. Jarek Pietraszuk and Dave Parker led the way as they beat OCs E 9-1. They have a four point lead over OCs D and Writtle D.
It was honours shared when Danbury F played Writtle E. John Robinson excelled for Danbury winning his three singles which included a 3-2 (11-9, 4-11, 11-9, 7-11, 11-9) win over Bob Garson and a 3-2 (11-9, 9-11, 6-11, 11-9, 11-9) victory over Trevor Collin.
Writtle D were held to a draw by Danbury H. No single player won all three singles and the Writtle pairing of Dave Moles and Neil Thompson and Danbury’s Dave Hancox and Allan Steel all won twice.
Steel fought back from 2-0 down to beat Dave Moles in five (5-11, 8-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-9).
Danbury J (25 points) have a massive seven point lead in division four. Good going after three rounds of matches. They scored two convincing wins this week. Dave Goody, Rob Kneale and Dave Powell ran out 8-2 winners against Galleywood B whilst Richard Allen replaced Dave Goody in their 9-1 win over Chelmsford E.
Chelmsford E were also convincing winners. Jon Dyson and Harry Buckle dominated as they beat OCs G 9-1. Hatfield Peverel C shaded their match against Danbury C 6-4. Keith Flowers led the way with a hat-trick and he beat Mick Robinson 3-2 (4-11, 9-11, 11-6, 11-3, 11-9) in the last game of the evening to seal the Hatfield Peverel victory.
Three games finished tied at 5-5. Melanie Bonnett won three times as Highwood A drew with Chelmsford F whilst Writtle F and Highwood B also shared the points. Francis Whitbread beat Brian Steward 3-2 (11-2, 11-5, 7-11, 8-11, 12-10) in the closest game of the evening.
Finally, Galleywood B and Hatfield Peverel C drew as well. Keith Flowers won his three singles for the Hatfield Peverel side. Will Goodchild defeated Andy Simmonds 3-2 (7-11, 11-2, 16-18, 11-6, 12-10) in a rather fluctuating five-ender.
Division five looks like being very evenly contested. Three sides – Maldon E, OCs H and Galleywood C – all have 20 points. Having said that this week’s four games produced quite different scorelines. Galleyood C (Mark Glenister / Gary Copsey / Charlie Craig) were 10-0 winners against Hatfield Peverel D. Maldon E ran out 7-3 winners against Hatfield Peverel E after Denis Crapnell and Ross Wheeler were both undefeated. John Kuhl was on target for Hatfield Peverel with a 3-2 (11-9, 8-11, 11-4, 9-11, 11-9) win against Kym Eames.
OCs H ran out narrow 6-4 winners against Chelmsford H after Stuart Wintle dominated. Wintle had to pull out all the stops to get the better of Michael Whelpdale 3-2 (11-4, 9-11, 11-7, 8-11, 11-9).
It was honours shared in the Inter-Club battle between Chelmsford G and Chelmsford J. Sarah Austin won her games for Chelmsford G.
Chelmsford Jaguars were 5-0 winners over Danbury Demons in CLICK Division 1A. Melinda Abraham Victor and Nyree Marsh carried all before them.
The match between Chelmsford Pumas and Danbury Dragons was a close one with the Pumas winning 3-2. James Donald won twice for the Pumas. He beat Alex Porter 3-1 (11-5, 9-11, 11-5, 11-5) and Sam Mortimer -Ford 3-1 (11-8, 7-11, 11-7, 11-8).
CLICK Division 1 B produced two 4-1 results. Chelmsford Rhinos (Dan Wise and Ben Chivers) beat Danbury Griffins whilst OCs Lions (Tom Bird and Josh Peasgood) defaeted Buttsbury Badgers.
