Luke Savill was edged out in a seven-set thriller in his first match at the Czech Youth Open.
Seeded 10th, the 17-year-old from Kent went straight into the last 64, where he met Romania’s Dragos Florin Oprea.
Savill led 1-0 and 3-2 but could not convert the victory as Oprea sealed the last 11-5 to win 4-3 overall (9-11, 11-9, 11-8, 11-13, 3-11, 11-6, 11-5).
In the doubles, Savill and partner Andreas Dilling of Denmark fought back from 2-0 down against Italian pair Matteo Gualdo & John Oyebode in the last 32 but could not prevent their opponents winning 3-2 (11-5, 11-9, 5-11, 5-11, 11-4).
