England’s juniors have seen their interest in the individual events at the Hungarian Youth Open brought to an end.
Denise Payet and Charlotte Bardsley made it out of the group stage and into the knockout rounds, as did Joe Clark.
Payet ran into the sixth seed Lee Ka Yee of Hong Kong in the round of 64 and was beaten 4-0, while Bardsley lost to Sweden’s Rebecca Muskantor at the same stage. Clark lost 4-1 to Germany’s Felix Wetzel in the round of 128.
James Smith was unlucky to miss out having won two of his three group matches. Samuel Kwan and Megan Gidney both won one of their group matches.
In the doubles, Payet & Bardsley won their first-round match and were then eliminated by the second seeds from Serbia.
The team events take place tomorrow, with the cadet events to follow. Also competing for England at the event are Jamie Liu, Amirul Hussain, Jasmin Wong and Darcie Proud.
