England Leopards women will make history when their home European qualifying tie against Slovenia is shown live on Team GB’s Facebook page.
When Kelly Sibley, Tin-Tin Ho and Karina Le Fevre take to the court at Medway Park, it will be the first time Team GB’s digital channels will have shown live sport.
The match starts at 6pm and the stream will feature commentary and player interviews as well as all the action.
It follows the successful streaming of the Leopards men’s match against Greece earlier this month on TheSPORTBible Facebook page, which was watched by more than 2.1 million unique users.
Bill Sweeney, CEO of the British Olympic Association, said:
“This is an incredibly exciting venture for Team GB and we’re delighted to be able to bring live sport to our digital channels for the first time and support one of our National Governing Bodies.
“We saw the success of our Facebook Live productions during Rio 2016 but offering live sport and hosting Table Tennis England’s qualification match allows our fans to follow our sports closer than ever with Team GB.”
Table Tennis England Chief Executive Sara Sutcliffe said:
“After the success of streaming our previous match through TheSPORTBible, we are delighted to achieve another first for British sport.
“We’re particularly pleased to promote women’s sport in this way, which is an important cause for both us and Team GB, and hope streams like this can inspire the next generation of girls.
“The Olympics showed just how much interest there is in sport across the board in this country and we’re thrilled to be at the forefront of a new type of live sports coverage.”
