Liam Pitchford is the sole survivor at the Austrian Open.

Pitchford was the only player to make it through to the main draw after Paul Drinkhall narrowly missed out due to a 4-3 defeat to Korea’s Jang Woojin.

After going 3-1 down, Drinkhall fought back to level the score 3-3, leaving all to play for in the final game. But Woojin, world ranked 21, ended the Englishman’s involvement in the competition after taking the final game 11-9. To watch Drinkhall’s match, click here.

Pitchford progressed in the Men’s Singles after two 4-1 wins over Aliaksandr Khanin (BLR) and Mizuki Oikawa (JPN).

Tomorrow he plays in the main draw against home nation’s Robert Gardos (world ranked 58).

Pitchford and Drinkhall also competed in Preliminary Round 1 of the Men’s Doubles today, but were knocked out after India’s Sharath Kamal Achanta & Sathiyan Gnanasekaran avenged last week’s defeat at the Swedish Open. The English duo, who beat their opponents 3-0 last week, were eliminated today after a 3-2 loss (11-7, 13-11, 4-11, 9-11, 11-7).
