England’s young players could not add individual medals to the team bronzes they won at the Cadet 6 Nations.

Of the eight players competing in Tours, France, only Denise Payet made it out of the groups and she was beaten in the quarter-finals by eventual champion Karen Raharimanana of the host nation. Raharimanana won it 3-2 (11-3, 7-11, 11-9, 6-11, 11-2).

Charlotte Bardsley, Mollie Patterson and Gauri Duhan each won two matches out of five to finish fifth in their groups, although Duhan ended on a high by beating Raharimanana in the final match (5, 9, 5).

In the boys’ events, Ethan Walsh came closest to reaching the knockout stage as he was edged out on countback, finishing third behind Netherlands’ Roel Bogie after winning three matches.

James Smith also won three out of five to finish third in his group. Harry Dai won three out of six to end in fourth place and Shayan Siraj was fourth in his group with two victories from five.

France dominated the event, taking gold and silver in the girls’ singles and filling all four top places in the boys’ event. Myshall Sabhi took the boys’ gold.
