Paul Drinkhall and Liam Pitchford both won their opening Men’s Singles matches at the Korea Open today, but Sam Walker was knocked out.

Drinkhall defeated world No 176 Padasak Tanviriyavechakul of Thailand in five games, while Pitchford needed six to overcome No 204 Yukiya Uda of Japan.

Drinkhall next faces Sweden’s Anton Kallberg, while Pitchford will face Jonghoon Lim of the host nation, both matches scheduled for early morning UK time tomorrow.

Walker was beaten in four straight by Germany’s Wang Xi, a former top-100 player who has not appeared on the tour previously this year.

Walker is still in the under-21 competition, having beaten Taipei’s Chian-Hung Sun in three straight today, while he and Pitchford will team up for the doubles and face Woojin Jang & Ganghyeon Park of Korea tomorrow.

The competition is strong, with 16 of the world’s top 20 players competing in Incheon.
