Joe Clark reached the doubles quarter-finals and the singles last 32 at the Serbian Junior & Cadet Open.
The Billingham teenager won two of his three group matches in Vrnjacka Banja, beating opponents from the host nation and Bosnia-Herzegovina and losing to seventh seed Vitor Amorim of Portugal.
It put him into the main knockout draw, where he put up a good fight against 15th seed Mihai Nemaciuc before his opponent won 4-2 (11-4, 9-11, 5-11, 11-8, 14-12, 15-13).
In the doubles, Clark and partner Jose Pedro Francisco of Portugal received a bye to the last 16, where they beat a pair from the host nation in four games.
But they ran into top seeds and eventual runners-up Patrik Klos & Jiri Martinko in the quarter-finals and were beaten in three straight.
In the team event, Clark and Francisco teamed up with Bulgaria’s Zlatin Tenev but, despite a good win for Clark in the first match, lost 3-1 to a combination from Belarus and Qatar and were then beaten by Bosnia-Herzegovina.
