The Jersey Grand Prix, which was due to take place next month, has been cancelled.

The organisers for the event said: “It is with great regret that we have cancelled the 14th Jersey Gränd Prix this year. We have had a substantial fall in the number of UK based players entering the competition this year. Normally, as a committee we would not be as concerned at this stage. We do realise that historically players have waited to closer to the deadline before entering the tournament. We currently believe that the continued spread of the Coronavirus will impact on our entry numbers this year. We also believe that there will be more restrictions placed on sporting events going forward and there is a risk that we would need to cancel this event closer to the actual tournament date. We have also not been helped with the collapse of Flybe which has impacted on some of the connectivity to Jersey in the short term. By making this decision now we are limiting the impact to the small number of UK based players travelling. We have emailed the UK based players that have already entered. We will offer some training and/or friendly competitions if they would like to play some table tennis while they are here.”
