Liam Pitchford was named most valuable male player of the series as he helped Falcons to win the inaugural Ultimate Table Tennis league in India.
The English player picked up three points in the final – following his player-of-the-match performance in the semis – as Falcons defeated Shaze Challengers 14-9 in Mumbai to take the crown.
Having taken a point from a 2-1 defeat to Croatia’s world No 46 Andrej Gacina (11-3, 10-11, 11-7) in match four, Pitchford’s 2-1 victory over Soumyajit Ghosh 2-1 (5-11, 11-10, 11-7) in match six put Falcons one point from overall victory, which was confirmed by Par Gerell in match eight.
In the semi-finals, Pitchford was player of the match as Falcons overcame DHFL Maharashtra United 14-5. He first beat Wong Chun Ting of Hong Kong 2-1 (11-8, 9-11, 11-4) in match four and then whitewashed India’s Harmeet Desai 3-0 (11-6, 11-10, 11-7) in match six to put his team 13-5 up and within one point of a victory which duly arrived in the next match.
