Tin-Tin Ho and Maria Tsaptsinos today sent the fourth seeds tumbling out of the Hungarian Junior & Cadet Open in Szombathely.
The English pair, themselves ranked 12th, beat Marie Migot of France and the Czech Republic’s Karolina Mynarova 3-1 (11-3, 10-12, 11-9, 11-9) to move into the quarter-finals.
However, that was as far as they were able to go as their progress was ruthlessly halted by fifth seeds Chia-Hsuan Lin and Po-Hsuan Lin of Taipei 3-0 (11-8, 11-3, 11-4).
Ho was also back in singles action this morning, and she continued her good form with a 4-0 (11-8, 11-7, 11-7, 11-6) victory over Slovakia’s Monika Urikova.
That set up a last-16 clash with Arina Singeorzan of Romania, but that was where the Londoner’s run ended as she saw a 2-0 lead evaporate to lose 4-2 (11-9, 11-4, 11-13, 9-11, 10-12, 8-11).
It all means England’s challenge in the Junior singles and doubles has ended. Attention now turns to the Junior and Cadet team events, which start on Friday. The Cadet singles and doubles events start on Saturday.
