Will Bayley’s magical golden moment at the Rio Paralympics has been immortalised in Lego – and your vote could help decide whether it goes into production.
The set, by Lego designer Neil Marsden, recreates the moment at the end of the Class 7 singles Table Tennis final when Will, having beaten local hero Israel Pereira Stroh in four sets, famously climbed on the table.
He celebratory antics saw him receive a yellow card from one of the umpires and the first thing Will did when he climbed off the table was to hug the umpire who had given him the sanction.
The model features four Minifigures, including Will Bayley and Israel Pereira Stroh as well as the two umpires. The court is also recreated with the final scores from the match included.
All the Minifigures are wearing the outfits and uniforms from the event. The set also includes an alternative Will in medal ceremony attire with his gold medal.
Will was born with arthrogryposis, a rare condition which affects all four of his limbs and can have a significant impact on mobility. In addition, at the age of seven he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and began a six-month course of chemotherapy at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
As part of his recovery from cancer he began playing table tennis and at the age of 12 he started playing at Byng Hall Table Tennis Club in Tunbridge Wells where, within four years, he was beating most of the able-bodied players.
In order for the proposed Lego set to become a reality and be available to buy, it needs to reach 10,000 votes.
