A new scholarship aims to address a shortage of female table tennis coaches by providing grants towards coaching courses.

Table Tennis England is launching the Female Coach Scholarships, a new initiative to help the next generation of femaleĀ coaches get off the ground.

It will see the creation of 10 female-only scholarships where up to 50% of the cost of a Level 1 or Level 2 course will be covered.

The success of initiatives like This Girl Can, which inspired 2.8 million women to be more active in the year following its launch, prove that ladies and girls are looking for new ways of getting fit, and studies show they are more likely to take up a sport if their coach is of the same sex.

The new scholarship aims to address the fact that there are not currently enough femaleĀ coaches in table tennis, which in turn will help to support the number of girls taking up the sport and entering into a club environment.

Scholarships will be up to 50% of the course costs and will be given to the individual on successful completion of the course. We welcome applications from people delivering table tennis in any sector and for either a UKCC Level 1 or UKCC Level 2 qualification but priority will be given to the following:

  • Women coaching in or will coach in a table tennis club setting
  • Women who will coach on a voluntary basis
  • Women that will help increase participation of girls within table tennis
