The nominations have now closed and Evangeline (Evie) Collier, 19 from Pilgrims Hatch, has made it to the shortlist for ‘Essex Sports Personality of the Year’. Evie, the Nottingham Trent University student who started playing when she was seven years old, won the ‘Young Sports Personality of the Year’ award last year when she helped her team, DHS Greenhouse Progress, win the Women’s British League Premier Division despite being out for three months with a broken foot. Evie now plays for PW Diest table tennis club in Belgium.

Her father, Paul Collier, said “We are so proud thatĀ Evie CollierĀ has been shortlisted for Essex Sports Star of the Year 2013. With your help last year, many of you will know that she won the Young Sports Star of the year Award. So with that in mind, Evie needs your help again. This is a tough category, but with your help we know she will do well.”

If Evie were to win, it will be great news for table tennis as well as for her and will be a real achievement considering she is the only woman shortlisted in her category.
