Volunteer table tennis coach Steve Bertie has been nominated for a BEDSA award – and YOUR vote could help him win!
Steve, who coaches at Continental Stars TTC in Birmingham is on a shortlist of four for the Unsung Champion of the Year award at the BEDSAs – the British Ethnic Diversity Sports Awards.

- Is working on a voluntary (unpaid) basis.
- Has volunteered within a specific community, particularly low-participation groups
- Has dedicated substantial time and commitment to their chosen sport
- Has significantly increased participation, developed sport and made a significant impact within the local community
- Is committed to continued professional development
Steve coaches people of all ages from all walks of life and tirelessly volunteers week in, week out at Continental Stars, to give people a chance to enjoy a great sport.
Voting is online and closes on Sunday March 1. However, votes cast before the second judging panel meets on Monday could be crucial in deciding the winner.
Celebrating its sixth year, the BEDSAs provide a unique opportunity to celebrate and reward Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) sporting excellence – to help increase sports participation by BAME communities and inspire the next generation of sporting talent.
Among the previous winners is Tin-Tin Ho, who was named Young Sports Person of the year at the inaugural awards in 2015.
This year’s black tie awards ceremony is on Saturday March 14 and will be hosted by TV legend Sir Lenny Henry.
