England’s women have made the team final which will be played Wednesday at roughly 09:30am GMT. After first stage wins over New Zealand and Wales, the quartet of Kelly Sibley, Joanna Parker, Hannah Hicks and Tin-Tin Ho seerenly progressed to the semi-finals with three more comfortable wins over Australia, Malaysia and Sri Lanka respectively.

This set up a semi-final meeting with the hosts India. There, led by Sibley, England recorded a fine 3-2 victory after the Leamington Spa girl’s victories over Mouma Das and Madhurika Patkar.

The men’s team also made serene progress through the first two group stages, although only finishing in second place to favourites Singapore in the second stage after suffering a 3-0 defeat to the top seeds.

This meant they also faced India in their last four meeting, however, unlike the girls, they fell to a 3-2 defeat.

Sam Walker, on his 18th birthday, pulled off a brilliant opening win against Sharath Kamal Achanta (wr 69) 3-1 (12-10, 4-11, 12-10, 11-9) to give England the lead, before Danny Reed came back from 2-1 down against Harmeet Desai to put England ahead at 2-1. However, after Achanta beat Andrew Baggaley and Soumyajit Ghosh defeated Walker, the men had to settle for a bronze medal from the team event.
