Though we are understandably biased, at Table Tennis England we believe table tennis is the ideal sport for schools.
The rules are easy to understand, it’s fun and research shows it’s engaging for pupils of all ages and abilities – including those who had previously shown little interest in sport!
If you are playing indoors, foldaway tables make storage easy, while outdoor tables add a new dimension to playgrounds and pupil leisure time.
Our subsidised packages can help schools to save hundreds of pounds on the recommended retail prices, and we also provide resources and training for teachers to help them deliver top-notch table tennis as part of the PE curriculum – and we even offer courses for youngsters who want to train as table tennis activators or umpires!
Finally, there is strong evidence that introducing table tennis is good for pupils’ emotional needs – 86% of primary schools have reported that table tennis has increased the well-being of students, while nine out of 10 teachers agree that tables have helped to reduce anti-social behaviour.
In short, what’s not to like?
But don’t just take our word for it, here’s what a couple of schools which have recently introduced table tennis have to say:
Table tennis is a new sport in our school and has engaged many children, encouraging them to show interest in other sports. This has impacted on their self-esteem and encouraged all students to participate, meaning there has been a reduction in anti-social behaviour – Wessington Primary
It gives our school another vehicle for staying healthy whilst competing at sport . . . I have already seen engagement in table tennis from children in Year 6 who haven’t been engaged in typical primary school sport – Frodsham Weaver Vale School
It’s the new school year and there has never been a better time to introduce table tennis to your school or improve on what you are already delivering.
