Chris Bartram and Andrew Trott were winners of the Veteran’s Mens Doubles competition while Sanja Clements and Emma Rose won the women’s competition.

Bartram and Trott didn’t find the easy going though as both their semi-final and final matches went the full distance to five games before finally they sealed a well-derserved title.

Bartram, in particular, will be relieved to win after losing his third Nationals Singles final in a row to Lorestas Trumpauskas.

Bartram and Trott beat Michael O’Driscoll and Tom Cutler 3-2 (6-11, 11-8, 6-11, 11-5, 11-9) to reach the final where they faced Trumpauskas and Neil Charles.

Trumpauskas and Charles had beaten Chris Clinton and Sean Madden 3-0 (11-8, 11-7, 11-6) to contest the final which proved to be dramatic as only the National Championships can provide.

There was nothing at all between the pairs in the first three games with Trumpauskas/Charles taking the first 12-10 before Bartram/Trott fought back to lead 2-1 with successive 11-9 games. The former pair then took the fourth game 11-4 to force the decider.

In the end Bartram and Trott held their nerve to win the final game 11-9.

The women’s doubles was a round-robin competition with Rose and Clements winning both of their matches to take the title.

They beat singles winner Michelle Reeves and partner Jackie Williams 3-1 (11-6, 11-4, 9-11, 11-5) before taking the title home with a 3-1 (11-4, 9-11, 11-7, 11-5) win over Sue Collier and Sandra Rider.
