Lorestas Trumpauskas won his second successive English Nationals Veterans Men’s title with victory over Chris Bartram, who for the third straight year, finished agonisingly as the runner-up.

Trumpauskas won through his quarter-final match with Lee Neil 3-1 (11-8, 9-11, 11-9, 11-8) before conquering Neil Charles in the semi-final 3-0 (13-11, 11-7, 11-6). This came after Charles had beaten Jerome Jonah 3-0 (11-3, 11-5, 11-6).

On the other side of the draw Chris Clinton beat Andrew Horsfield 3-0 (11-7, 11-4, 13-11) to advance to the semi-final where he faced Chris Bartram who had come through a tense quarter-final against Michael O’Driscoll in the pick of the last eight ties.

O’Driscoll had earlier beaten Costas Papantoniou in his group to progress but found Bartram in fine form as the man from Kent went ahead 1-0 with an 11-7 first game.

However, O’Driscoll replied strongly to lead 2-1 after two excellent games went 11-5 and 11-4 in his favour. Bartram fought back again 11-9 to set up the decider for the semi-final place against Clinton.

It was Bartram who took the chance with an 11-7 fifth game triumph and a 3-2 win.

In the semi-final Bartram found the going slightly easier – taking only four games to get past Clinton 3-1 (11-8, 11-8, 7-11, 11-5).

The final itself was a repeat of the 2011 final where Trumpauskas was victorious and the 2012 final was no different as yet again Trumpauskas proved his class to claim a straight-games victory 3-0 (11-7, 11-7, 11-5)
