Nottingham Trent University continued their recent dominance of the British Universities and Colleges Sport table tennis events with four titles out of five at the recent BUCS Individual Championships.

Leading the way was English international Chris Doran who won all three of the events he entered.

Highest on the priority list was the Men’s Singles title, which he achieved by beating NTU colleague Sean Cullen in an absorbing final. Despite trailing 2-1 at one stage, the top seed recovered to seal the final two games 11-6 and beat 2012’s Champion.

Incidentally the pair could meet this weekend in the second round should both seeded players win their opening fixture. Tickets are available on the door at Ponds Forge, Sheffield from £6 for adults on the Saturday and £8 on Sunday – Friday entry is free.

Doran, semi-finalist in January’s WCPP at Alexandra Palace, was also triumphant in the Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles. He teamed up with Cullen to beat Kim Daybell and Chris Kendall (Leeds) 3-0 in the Men’s Doubles final before joining Emma Vickers to win the Mixed Doubles against fellow NTU students Emran Hussain and Alice Loveridge.

The two girls involved in the Mixed Doubles final also contested the Women’s Singles final and it was Loveridge who came out on top. The girl from Guernsey overcame the 2011 & 2012 winner, Vickers, who lost a tight final in four games 3-1 (12-10, 13-15, 11-9, 11-9).

The only title Nottingham Trent University missed out on was the Women’s Doubles where Loveridge and Vickers were shocked in another close final, this time in five games against London School of Economics pair Hui Qi Kwa and Ling Yu Yang.

The London based duo sealing the title in deuce in the fifth game 3-2 (11-8, 8-11, 11-7, 12-14, 12-10)
