Paul Drinkhall is still number one but he can feel Andrew Baggaley's breath on his neck

There’s little to choose between the top English men in the latest World Rankings as we head into 2012 with the Olympics now dangerously close around the corner.

Although there is no change in position both Paul Drinkhall and Andrew Baggaley maintain their exceedingly close battle at the top of the English World Ranking list with just four points in total between the pair.

Drinkhall rises one place to 143rd on 1828pts while Baggaley closes up behind to 144th with 1824pts. Breathing down their necks is the current man in form, Liam Pitchford, who himself is just 76pts behind Drinkhall in 174th place.

The Hungarian Open (which both Drinkhall and Baggaley are attending) could prove to be a shoot-out for top spot in just over two weeks time.

Meanwhile in the women’s rankings, Joanna Parker shows no signs of slowing her progress as she rises another place to 127th which means once again she sets a new career high ranking. England number two Kelly Sibley also rises three places as the pair stay well clear of the other Olympic hopefuls.
