Fourteen-year-old Tin-Tin Ho secured the first English medal of the European Youth Championships 2013 (Ostrava, CZE) as her, and Czech partner Tomas Polansky, cruised into the semi-final of the Cadet Mixed Doubles with a 3-0 win.

Tin-Tin, still in with a chance of a medal hat-trick in the Cadet Singles and Cadet Girls’ Doubles, was comfortable alongside Czech colleague Polansky in their first time as a doubles pairing. Having beaten Tibor Spanik and Karolina Furkova (SVK) earlier in the day, they then beat Sweden’s Omid Khosbakht and Erika Front 3-0 (12-10, 11-4, 11-9)

Tomorrow the pair will face Russian defenders Maria Malanina and Maxim Chaplygin for a place in the final. In a twist of fate, Tin-Tin will also partner Malanina in the last 16 of the Girl’s Doubles while the Paddington youngster will look to build on her singles bronze from 2012 when she re-starts on Saturday in the last 16 against Camille Campion (FRA).

Just two other players remain in the 2013 EYC for England as high hopes in the singles events were quashed on Friday. Defeats for Tom Jarvis, Sam Walker, Maria Tsaptsinos and Lois Peake meant that only the cadet boys’ doubles pairing of Jarvis and Marcus Giles will continue in full competition over the weekend.

Jarvis and Giles face Romanians Cristian Pletea and Alexandru Manole after securing a tense 3-2 victory over Christian Friedrich and Thomas Trink (AUT) in the last 32 late on Friday evening.

There will also be action for George Downing and Luke Savill on Saturday but their involvement extends to the consolation singles event where both will be looking to pick up some positive results in Ostrava.
