LEICESTERSHIRE TABLE TENNIS ASSOCIATION

The Leicester Table Tennis League’s summer competition for the Elbow Tankard could not have had two closer semi final matches without there being a tie, and the matches were uncannily similar in all respects.  A score line of 11-9 as well as a star of the show for the winning team emerging unbeaten in singles, with both matches standing at 9-9 and the final two games to play.

It was Vishal Parmar who spearheaded Abbots against Villagers.  He won all six singles and faced Alex Mason for the final two games giving six points to his opponent each time.  Parmar won 21-18, 21-18.  Fahed Sacoor won two from four singles for Abbots while Ross Adams secured one.  For Villagers Kevin Truman won three from six.

It was George McClurkin who emerged undefeated from Park Keepers’ win against Parsons.  Not much more than twelve months ago McClurkin was strolling down Humberstone Gate in Leicester and came across outside tables being used in the Ping! project.  Having played in his native north east years before, he found the urge stirring again and he went on to have a magical season in Division Three for Knighton Park.

In this match McClurkin came up against Daniel Wilcock in the final two games giving away nine points each time, coming through 21-16, 21-18 to give his team victory.  Support came from John Underwood with two wins, while Dean Jordan claimed one from four.  Wilcock won his other four for the losers.
