The team finalists are known after the first day of competition at the inaugural Inter-Regional Finals in Kettering.

With a total of 176 boys and girls representing 10 regions in three age groups, it was a busy day of action on 24 tables.

South West were the best-performing region, reaching three finals.

The final matches will kick off tomorrow’s second day, to be followed by singles competitions.

Cadet Boys

Kian Burgess beat Harry Watson 3-0 in the decisive match to seal Group 1 victory for East as they defeated nearest rivals North West 3-2.

Their opponents in the final will be London, who won three of four matches to edge out East Midlands on head-to-head record.

Round one highlights: London’s 3-2 victory over West Midlands went to a deciding set in the deciding match, Robert Pelc sealing it against Jake Price (11-8, 7-11, 11-5, 9-11, 11-9).

In North East’s 3-0 triumph over Yorkshire, David Gofton needed to fight back to beat Jake Cutts 3-2 (7-11, 6-11, 11-9, 11-8, 11-8).

Round two: Two comebacks helped South West get their first victory as they beat London 3-0. Stanley Shilton first turned the tables against Robert Pelc (6-11, 11-7, 11-13, 11-5, 11-3) and then the doubles sealed victory, Joe Walmsley & Uther Kingdom beating George Long & Zaiim Premji (11-9, 9-11, 11-13, 14-12, 11-8).

Southern’s Callum Ashworth was another comeback kid, but his 3-2 victory over Kyle Day (10-12, 7-11, 11-8, 11-7, 11-8) could not prevent West Midlands winning 3-1 overall.

Round three: Stanley Shilton won two five-game matches to spur South West to a 3-1 overall result against West Midlands. His two ‘victims’ were Ricardo Bolanos and Jake Price, the latter in the decisive fourth match.

Jack Rodgers set East Midlands on the road to a 3-0 success over Southern as he defeated Vincent Cheung in five (11, 9, -6, -8, 6).

All three of South East’s wins in their 3-1 scoreline against Yorkshire went to five – two of them won by Mahmood Kelani. He beat Aman Khan and Tong Wah Chan, while Bertrand Siu saw off Chan.

James Davies-Stokes’ five-set win over David Gofton sealed East’s 3-1 triumph against North East.

Round four: A come-from-behind 3-2 win by Daniel Olsberg & Harry Watson against Adam Webster & David Gofton helped North West defeat North East 3-1. The scoreline in that doubles was 8-11, 9-11, 11-5, 11-8, 11-4.

Uther Kingdom’s 3-2 win (12-10, 8-11, 3-11, 11-4, 12-10) over Yaj Vashee was in vain for South West as they lost 3-1 to Southern. For the victors, Vincent Cheung sealed victory as he came from 2-1 down to defeat Kingdom. In the doubles, Cheung & Callum Ashworth defeated Kingdom & Stanley Shilton in the fifth.

Round five: David Gofton held off Mahmood Kelani 3-2 in a rollercoaster clash as North East beat South East 3-0, winning it 15-13, 1-11, 11-6, 6-11, 11-8.

Zaiim Premji won 12-10 in the fifth against Vincent Cheung to help London beat Southern 3-1.

In the final match of the day, when East beat North West, there was a five-set win for Kian Burgess over Daniel Olsberg in the opening match, while Olsberg later made it 2-2 overall with a deciding-set win over James Davies-Stokes.

Cadet Girls

South West and South East will contest the final after both won all four matches today – South West sealing Group 1 in the final match against previously unbeaten Southern.

Round one highlights: The doubles proved a thriller in Southern’s 3-0 win over West Midlands as Shristi Ghosh & Habina Seo defeated Angel Chen & Emily Beasley 3-2 (11-6, 8-11, 13-11, 12-14, 11-8).

Lois Perryman staved off a fightback from Charlotte McCarty to help South East beat North East 3-1, winning it 3-2 (11-3, 11-9, 11-13, 6-11, 11-6).

Round two: Yorkshire fought hard in their 3-0 defeat to London, taking two of the matches the distance. Isabella Hudson beat Catherine Balshaw (7, -8, -10, 8, 5) and then the doubles saw Federica Bonato & Medha Verma overcome Grace Fellingham-Webb & Emily Mellor (11, 5, -7, -12, 4).

Southern’s Temeesha Hobbs got their 3-1 win over North West off to a good start by defeating Sophie Newton the hard way, the third set pivotal in her 3-2 (6-11, 4-11, 14-12, 11-6, 11-5) victory.

North East were twice taken the distance by East in their 3-1 overall victory. Erin Greensmith defeated Gracie Edwards (11-9, 1-11, 11-7, 6-11, 11-7) in a topsy-turvy opening match and Jess Dunn then mounted a great recovery to see off Ella Barnard (12-14, 4-11, 11-6, 15-13, 11-3).

Round three: A comeback doubles win completed South East’s 3-0 scoreline against London, Lois Perryman & Alice Hazell defeating Medha Verma & Federica Bonato 3-2 (10-12, 11-5, 9-11, 11-1, 12-10).

Anais O’Connor edged a close match against Emily Beasley, coming from 2-0 down to win 3-2 (9-11, 8-11, 12-10, 11-9, 11-7) as North West registered a 3-0 score against West Midlands.

Nina Kadir & Gemma Kerr won the doubles in five against Darcie Proud & Natasha Johnston as South West beat East Midlands 3-1.

Round four: Lois Perryman sealed a 3-1 victory for South East over East by beating Charlotte Marsden 3-2 (11-7, 5-11, 11-13, 11-5, 11-5).

Round five: East’s 3-0 win over London featured two matches which went the distance. Grace Edwards beat Federica Bonato 16-14, 7-11, 6-11, 11-7, 12-10 and Ella Barnard & Marsden defeated Bonati & Medha Verma 12-14, 11-9, 7-11, 11-8, 11-5).

Under-13 Boys

Unbeaten North East saw off nearest rivals East in the final match and will face North West, who won three of their four matches in Group 2.

Round one highlights: Southern’s 3-2 victory over Yorkshire was a marathon, with three matches going the distance. That included the decider, where Pranav Gudipati beat Oliver Bryant 3-2 (11-8, 11-7, 6-11, 7-11, 11-8).

South West’s 3-2 defeat of London included a five-set doubles clash, Leon Kashdan-Brown & Luke Bennett overcoming Jon-Vai Chung & Louis Beesley 3-2 (11-6, 10-12, 10-12, 11-7, 13-11).

There was another epic doubles match as West Midlands beat North West 3-2, Nathan Birch & Alex Lee coming out on top 3-2 against Matthew Westworth & Ben McDonald.

Round two: Luke Manning set up East’s 3-0 scoreline against South West with a hard-fought 3-2 (11-9, 10-12, 11-6, 4-11, 11-2) victory over Herbie Sage.

Pranav Gudipati overturned a 0-2 deficit to beat Fraser Kent (10-12, 5-11, 11-7, 11-5, 11-8) to give Southern the lead against South East. But their opponents came back to win 3-1, with Kent & Owen Brown taking the doubles in five against Gudipati & William Fricker. It was a marathon too – 11-5, 13-11, 15-17, 11-13, 11-5).

Round three: North West won the last two matches in five to complete a 3-2 victory over South East. James Courtney beat Julio Key to level the tie and Ben McDonald then overcame Owen Brown to take North West over the line.

Leon Kashdan-Brown won the deciding fifth 12-10 against Shiven Arora to kick-start South West’s 3-0 victory over East Midlands.

Louis Beesley beat Luca Pontone 3-2 (10-12, 11-8, 11-9, 10-12, 11-4) but it was the only victory for London as they lost 3-1 to North East.

Three five-game matches in West Midlands’ 3-1 defeat of Southern – Alex Lee beating Pranav Gudipati and Nathan Birch beating William Fricker to put the Midlanders 2-0 up. The two Southern boys combined to take the doubles from 2-0 down, but Lee then beat Fricker to seal overall victory.

Round four: Dan Emery & McKenzie Lowe sealed a 3-0 win for East over West Midlands with a five-set doubles victory over Eduardo Bolanos & Nathaniel Saunders.

Oliver Bryant & Rayhan Khan’s five-set doubles win over Ben McDonald and Alex Darlington was the highlight for Yorkshire in their 3-1 defeat to North West.

Bradley Burgess recovered a 2-0 deficit against Marco Plate to win 3-2 (10-12, 7-11, 11-4, 11-6, 11-7) in East’s 3-1 victory over London.

Nathan Birch of West Midlands won 3-2 against South East’s Owen Brown but could not prevent a 3-2 overall victory for South East.

Round five: Marco Plate beat Sam Cooper in five (11-4, 12-10, 5-11, 12-14, 11-8) in London’s 3-0 triumph over East Midlands.

Ben McDonald & James Courtney prevailed 15-13 in the decider against Pranav Gudipati & William Fricker to seal North West’s 3-0 victory over Southern.

Fraser Kent beat Rayhan Khan in five to give South East a 1-0 lead over Yorkshire. But Yorkshire came back to win it 3-1, taking the doubles in five through Nicholas Miller & Oliver Bryant.

Under-13 Girls

South West and West Midlands both remained unbeaten to book their place in tomorrow’s final.

Round one highlights: Bethany Wootton overturned a 2-0 deficit to beat Nadia Zoppos 3-2 in West Midlands’ 3-0 victory over London.

Amillia Baker sealed West Midlands’ 3-2 win over South East, who had come back from 2-0 down to level. Baker defeated Min Jie Guo 3-1 in the decider.

Round three: West Midlands won the four-team Group 2 thanks to a 3-1 win over East Midlands, both teams having won their opening two matches. They had trailed 1-0 after Erin Green beat Sophie Rinnhofer in the first match.

Lucy Gent could not prevent North East losing 3-1 to Yorkshire, despite a battling 3-2 win over Aliza Khaliq (5, -4, -7, 9, 4).

East beat North West 3-0 but two matches went to deciders, Ilysa Lacorte beating Daisy Boulton and then joining Lucy Curtis to defeat Boulton & Adelina Gram in the doubles.

Isabel Webb sealed South East’s 3-1 victory over London by beating Valentina Weinstein in five.

Round four: Mukmanee Warburton (Yorkshire) defeated Lucy Curtis (East) 3-2 (11-4, 12-14, 8-11, 11-6, 11-6) but could not stave off a 3-2 overall defeat for her side.

Round five: Adelina Gram’s victory, 12-10 in the decider against Rebecca Savage, helped North West to a 3-0 win over North East.

South East’s 3-1 win over East included a fifth-set doubles win for Angharad Beman & Mari Baldwin.

Under-11 Boys

North East and South East had unblemished records and will face each other in the final. North East saw off East Midlands 3-0 in their final match to ensure they finished top of Group 1.

Round one highlights: Tristan Kite came from 2-0 down to defeat Harry Birch in London’s 3-0 victory over Southern, while Leo Pontone performed the same feat against Felix Anderson as North East defeated North West 3-0. There was another five-setter in that match, Tommy Hawkes beating Thomas Naylor 12-10 in the decider.

In East Midlands’ 3-1 victory over West Midlands, Matthew Perry saw off Eduardo Bolanos 15-13 in a deciding fifth game.

South West’s 3-1 defeat of Yorkshire included a 3-2 (11-5, 11-13, 11-5, 7-11, 11-9) doubles win for Jakub Piwowar & Ptolemy Beman against Sam Lowe & Theo Kelly.

Round two: Felix Anderson was on the right side of a five-set match as he overcame Nathaniel Saunders to help North West notch their first victory, 3-0 against West Midlands.

Sam Lowe could not stop South East defeating Yorkshire, despite his 3-2 victory over Harry Yip.

Round three: Giorgios Gerakios set East Midlands on the way to a 3-0 victory over East as he completed a 3-2 win over Daniel Emery (9-11, 11-8, 11-9, 10-12, 11-6).

In the same group, Leo Pontone enjoyed a second five-game victory of the day, this time against Eduardo Bolanos (12-14, 12-10, 9-11, 11-7, 11-2).

Sean Berry was another to go the distance, defeating Frazer Ives (-11, 4, 11, -8, 7) to help Southern to a 3-1 scoreline against Yorkshire.

A marathon victory by Shem Lejarde sealed a 3-1 win for South East over London. He defeated Tristan Kite 3-2 (5-11, 7-11, 11-4, 11-7, 16-14).

Round four: Harry Derecki started and finished London’s 3-2 win over South West, including a 3-2 triumph in the first match against Jakub Piwowar (6, 4, -7, -6, 9).

Southern’s Ben Poulter won one five-setter and lost another in the 3-1 defeat to South East, beating Harry Yip but losing to Shem Lejarde.

Under-11 Girls

East will face South West in the final, with both emerging unbeaten from their groups.

Round two highlights: After a series of routine fairly victories in the first round, South West needed to be at their best to shake off Southern 3-1. Lauren Loosemore came from 2-0 down to beat Katie Oaten 3-2 (10-12, 6-11, 11-7, 13-11, 11-8) but the doubles went the way of Southern’s Shanai Kalsi & Oaten, in five against Loosemore & Erin Richards (12-10, 5-11, 11-7, 9-11, 11-6).

Round three: South West topped the four-team Group 2 thanks to a 3-0 win over West Midlands, both teams having won their opening two matches.

Erin Richards beat Megan Jones in three and Lauren Loosemore defeated Erin Darwen in four, before the two combined to win the doubles.

The three-team Group 1 went the way of East as they beat Yorkshire 3-1, both having overcome North West. Hallie Fitton gave Yorkshire the lead by defeating Maliha Baig in five, but East took the next three, including the doubles in five when Baig & Isabelle Lacorte beat Fitton & Evie Davies.
